Identity Digital Highlights Domain Trends in Q1 2025 Report

The administrator of new TLDs (Top-Level Domains) Identity Digital has published a trend report for the first quarter of 2025 including lists of popular domain extensions and keywords. Across the Internet, industry-specific domain extensions are gaining traction. Tech-related keywords are also maintaining their popularity.

The most common keywords in registered domains were:

  • jobs
  • online
  • services
  • home
  • tech

‘Online’, ‘services’ and ‘tech’ can be classified as IT-related.

The top 10 domain extensions according to the Identity Digital report included:

  • .INFO
  • .PRO
  • .TODAY
  • .AI
  • .LIVE
  • .IO
  • .WORLD
  • .LIFE
  • .DIGITAL
  • .AGENCY

Why should you care? Selecting industry-specific domain extensions or names with pertinent keywords can bolster your brand identity and enhance your SEO. For an IT company, consider extensions like .it.com.

ICANN Study: Low-cost Domains Become the Main Phishing Tool

An ICANN study found that 89% of phishing attacks are carried out through cheaper than usual price domains registered through automated services without data verification. An analysis of 29,000 domains showed that those used for malicious activity were registered for an average of $4.71, compared to $8.62 for legitimate ones.

Bulk discounts and automated registration via API (Application Programming Interface) increased abuse by 401%. Also, free DNS and bundled hosting also correlated with high levels of abuse.

Proactive measures, such as identity verification and KYC (Know Your Customer) procedures, reduced abuse by 63%. Reactive actions, including domain blocking, were ineffective. The average lifespan of a phishing domain has decreased to 11 days, but during this time, criminals manage to compromise thousands of accounts. New technologies allow them to dynamically change content depending on the victim’s geolocation, replacing fake pages with legitimate ones when attempting to verify.

ICANN calls for further research into other types of fraud, comparative studies of domain zones and analysis of domain life cycles.

Why should you care?

Although affordable domain prices open up business opportunities, they also attract scammers whose actions undermine the reputation of domain extensions and user trust in domains. Therefore, before purchasing, it’s important to check the reliability of the domain suffix and the measures that the registry takes to protect users. For instance, the it.com Domains team devotes great resources to security, implementing proactive anti fraud mechanisms.

ChatGPT Becomes a Business AI Agent

OpenAI has made a strategic expansion of functionality by expanding ChatGPT from a chatbot into a platform for complex business automation. In the words of OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, ChatGPT is no longer a Google replacement, but is now focused on helping with complex tasks and workflows.

He noted that users can delegate some tasks to AI as to a junior employee, such as interpreting code or conducting deep research. A key innovation is the Enterprise Agents system, which integrates AI directly into enterprise CRM (Customer Relationship Management) and ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) systems to manage logistics, financial forecasting, and document flow.

Why should you care? The evolution of AI is redefining digital strategies. Static websites are giving way to platforms with integrated services; task automation, personalized analytics, and predictive solutions. As AI-powered tools like ChatGPT acquire new features, they can change the way marketers, developers, and everyday users get things done. Using AI can simplify business processes, making them more cost-effective, particularly creating and maintaining websites and also help with choosing appropriate domain names.

Meta Tests AI Tools to Automate Video Production

Meta is actively implementing AI in advertising to simplify and reduce the cost of creating promotional materials. The company presented an updated tool for converting images into video ads using music and text at the Cannes Lions advertising festival. It will help generate and edit video content.

New features allow advertisers to use neural networks to turn static images into video ads.

The system analyzes uploaded images, text descriptions and data about the target audience, to generate dozens of video options with animations, music and synthesized voice.

Last year, Meta mentioned that with the development of video content, users had begun to spend 60% of their time online watching videos.

Therefore, it is not surprising that companies are striving to devote so many resources to the development of AI in this area.

For instance, earlier in May of this year, Google introduced a new version of Veo, which supports 4K resolution. This allows the model to be used in the professional field. The AI video generation model also creates sound, is distinguished by realism and accurately follows text descriptions from users.

Why should you care? All major tech giants, such as Meta, Google and OpenAI, have presented AI video generation capabilities, which open the door to more personalized advertising to hook your target audience and bring convertible traffic to the site. This will also reduce creation times and advertising budgets. However, to stand out in the flow of AI content, companies will have to invest in exclusive formats and UGC strategies (User Generated Content).
