iPhone 5 announcement due today

Whether it's a revamped 4 or a new 5, they'd better deliver the goods and not steer the lemmings down a daft upgrade path. I just saw the Samsung S2 last night and was impressed. Admittedly Apple make the very best personal computers, but any more iPads without Flash, or iPhones without serious revamping, and I'm out.

There's an opportunity for playing the Apple share price here, with Puts and Calls, so if you play the markets, keep an eye out later today.

My personal view is that Apple will not deliver and the market will not be enthralled.

I agree with you. I love apple but you can only support people who care, and it looks like the public have been a wee bit neglected.

They were the first and well ahead of the game, but my next phone will be an android phone rather than my current iphone.

I understand why they do it, but don't like my data being locked into igroup devices closed group, especially now there is so many competitors doing it better on an open circuit.

I am still amazed on the monopolies in terms of software, hardware and accessories that Apple have been allowed to enjoy.....many other companies would have been forced to change. Apple seem to be a law unto themselves.

I am a fan of their products (unfortunately) but just do not like their ability to make money selling Apps that do not agree to their description with no ability to get your money back - that I can't view Flash because Steve Jobs says no way (irregardless of customer opinions) or that standard 3.5mm headphones don't quite fit the iPhone without causing a problem (immediate or long term) and so your forced to pay a hugely inflated £18 for a sub-standard pair...

....and don't get me started on £25 for a damn plug!!

Interesting to hear some views on the iPhone 5.

I say this as my contract is due for renewal this weekend.
Currently on an old Blackberry.
Considering a HTC Sensation as my upgrade, but I had been waiting to hear about the iPhone 5 first.
Are other AD members anti-Apple too ?
(I'm very tempted with using Android for my next phone anyway, as I believe it will sync with my Google account/docs/calendar more easily (?))

Not sure anyone is anti apple mate, just anti non flash, anti non migration of music and stuff to other devices.

If Apply improved on those two issues, I'd certainly stick with them. But as my contract is also up soon, I won't be hanging around. Of course will lose a load of songs and stuff but worth it tbh. Every song or movie I add makes it a bit more painful to migrate, so better doing it now from my point of view.

With Apple not paying dividends... ever... investment into a share that only pays out a return on selling at a higher price is risky at best....

I think we'll see a drop in their share prices in the next 12 months regardless of their wonderful new product.... unless they start paying a realistic dividend!

I've never understood all this hype and slavers regarding smart phones. I've owned the same nokia brick for 12 years, dropped it hundreds of times, even dropped it down the bog a couple of times.
Guess what? It still makes phone calls. Is that not what a phone is for? It's not locked to any network so I can put any sim in it, wherever I am and make a phone call. My nokia has been torn apart and dipped in juice by my 3 year old on countless occasions, but I can still make a phone call with it.
How many iphones can survive the 3 year old treatment?

Android all the way for sure apple have some cool apps not yet available on android but there lack of flash and crappy need to use itunes to do anything with the phone on a PC all make me stay away from apple.
@greywing there are solutions to move your media if you switch this was just the first in google there may be many more.

I probably make 2-3 short calls a week on my iPhone (I've never gone over a hour a month call time) but I must average over an hour a day of app use and web browsing. And when I'm away for a couple of days it saves me lugging around a netbook to check email. That's the real merit of a smartphone - its ability to make a phone call is almost entirely incidental.

All jokes aside, I think people are rather underwhelmed by the latest offering. Even incremental improvements are heralded as if it's the best thing ever, and I'm not sure that as many people buy into it now. That said, they'll no doubt still shift many millions of units.
