Hi all

Been digging around the net to find various domains but the common word co.uk/com/org.uk/net etc all seem to be gone.

Is it worth investing in new reg domains (IF you can find any worthy!) or save & try to purchase an established domain off another domainer??

I would say just always keep in mind the quality of the name you are buying. Always be thinking about quality of the domain, so that means good extensions, and exact matches. Whilst not impossible to find new reg names, I would say the supply is limited. I think there is probably some potential in the secondary market, but as ever you just need to be buying something of quality but at the right price.

Rgds

Sounds like sound advice to me! How many exacts is good? 10K+? 20K+? Obviously the higher the better but if there is something that has 13k, is it worth reg'ing it?

I would definitely think about investing into a good, aged domain. They can be pricey but will save you time in the long run if they are trusted by Google. If you need any advice, give me a shout.

It depends what it is:

50k people looking for 'bus timetable' won't be as targeted, profitable or saleable as 20k people looking for 'hotels in london'

Hmm, I don't know. If it's a person new to domaining and web design/development/SEO, it could be an expensive mistake. If it's someone who has the skills and knowledge but is new to domaining, then they may be ok but I'd start with something small and cheap.

Fair point. I'd suggest starting off with a fresh reg, getting some experience in development, learning what make a good domain (keywords, age, links, history, length, etc) and then buy a nice one in a niche you are really interested in.

The advice depends on what you intend doing with the domain. If I was starting out today 'domainlore' does offer 1 or 2 good value domains in their auctions. (they tend to be the ones that attract initially one or two bids but don't rise above about £100-£150 at the close)

Try to stick to an area that your familiar or interested in that has some commercial bearing initially.
