For those of you who don't know, Mark Pearson (founder of myvouchercodes.co.uk amongst others) is on tonights Secret Millionaire on Channel 4 at 9pm

It has been a great series of Secret Millionaire this one, after Chris Brown's (co-founder of Holidaywatchdog.com and sunshine.co.uk) episode a few weeks ago as well.

I take my hat off to both of them for doing the program, and for those of you fortunate to have met or spent time with either of them, you will know how genuine and nice they both really are.

Looking forward to it :)

It will definitely be good to see what mark is like since Ive never met him but have read countless reports of his dodgy dealing, copying sites, ignoring affiliates rules etc...

He won't be the first on secret millinoaire to have turned out to be a bit dodgy. It's like they are trying to buy respectability, some of them anyway.

from http://www.searchengineoptimisation.org/groupola-iphone-deal-success-or-disaster/. saw this comment:

"I’ve already made a formal complaint to ASA and they will investigate Groupola, 10 Yatis PR&MKT company and Mark Pearson. Mark Pearson posed as one of winning buyers of the iphone on the fan page in the Facebook- when questioned by other FB users – his profile was deleted from the Groupola fan page minutes later. I denounced 10 Yatis and Mark Pearson in the Groupola’s Facebook page and they blocked my comments. ASA is very good to investigate scam and fraud cases within days. Groupola needs to prove that they have 200 definite buyers. I’m now blocked from Groupola’s Facebook page – so much for freedom of speech and shopping!"

Always makes me laugh when people believe we have freedom of speech in the country.

But we do mate, you go to countries that don't have "freedom of speech" and you'll notice the difference.

Just because someone doesn't want to amplify your speech by putting it on their website doesn't mean that you don't have it. After all nobody was prosecuted for displaying their annoyance at this scam.

Sure there are countries where there is a greater degree of oppression than here. But we certainly don't have freedom of speech.

The establishment press is heavily censored for one thing. Hence a lot of very newsworthy items are not reported despite the efforts of those who wish to get the news out.

Then we have the defamation laws, which are frequently used as a threat to silence criticism (typically towards large corporations). The prospect of a court case, which could rapidly run into £10,000s in costs and legal fees alone, is enough to silence most people. So basically it boils down to money. The big corporations can easily absorb the legal costs to silence their critics. By contrast if the average man in the street fails to back down on the grounds that he should be free to expose some wrongdoing, he could end up bankrupted, his life ruined. I'd hardly call that freedom of speech.

Then we have the trademark laws where people who inadvertently use a phrase which some other party claims to 'own' can end up in the same predicament. And the fan sites, such as the Harry Potter fan sites set up by children who were threatened with legal action for trademark infringement.

Even now the government is trying to bring in new legislation to censor the Internet en masse and proposing that this censorship will be administered by corporations!

There's a big difference between freedom of speech and being responsible for it, otherwise people will get away with saying all sorts of dangerous shit.

As for taking on big corporations or having no money to get justice, there's always other ways to get someone back, the trick is not feeling the need to walk up to them afterwards and telling them it was you who fucked them up. Dish served cold and all that!

Nobody is arguing that you some of the tools available to broadcast your views maybe limited by laws and the control of these media outlets. But nobody has ever had the human right to broadcast their speech, merely a right to free speech.

People can't confuse the two, freedom of speech is different from freedom to broadcast a speech or have that speech broadcast by for you by others. Just because they don't want to help your message get to others, doesn't mean they have taken your right to speak away.

Most domainers are more dodgy than a late night kebab from your local shop after a night on the drink.

TBH I knew this thread would end up not being a positive thread about Mark. Nice sentiment Frank but some people (not pointing any fingers specifically!) are just too jealous and cynical to let a good deed pass without trying to devalue it.

Mark Pearson - Good old lad

Frank - The boy done well didn't he :)

My fave cheque even though it wasn't the largest one Mark handed out was to the chap for £3k to let him have a break and go on holiday, great stuff, love gestures like that and responses which are clearly genuine.

I like Mark and he's come along way in 3 years, great example of what can be achieved in our industry if you have a vision and put your mind to it.

Worth £60m and only 30, he has done great and came across really nice.

He would make a good celebrity chef too :D
