Nominet in partnership with British Computer Society & Digital Policy Alliance members to discuss Nominet’s proposal to allow registration at the second level in the .uk namespace.

Second level domain registration consultation seminar
This seminar is hosted by Nominet in partnership with The British Computer Society Internet Specialist Group (BCS) and the Digital Policy Alliance (DPA). This is an invitation only event and as places are strictly limited priority will be given to those who have not previously attended a Nominet meeting on the proposals. Only delegates with a confirmed registration will be permitted to attend.

Unfortunately, although I did register 2 weeks ago (23-08-13) on link to registration form, which gave the message above.

For full context I have found this later;

Second Level .uk Domain Registration - Discussion and Consultation

Date/Time: Monday 9 September 2013, 5.00pm - 6.30pm (Registration at 4.45pm) Followed by drinks reception

Venue: Sofitel London St James, 6 Waterloo Place, London, SW1Y 4AN

Summary:

We are delighted to invite you to a seminar to discuss Nominet’s proposals for changes to the .uk namespace. This event is hosted by Nominet in partnership with The British Computer Society Internet Specialist Group and the Digital Policy Alliance.

In July, Nominet, the not-for-profit organisation best known for running the .uk internet infrastructure launched a second consultation on proposals to enable .uk domain name registrations at the second level (example.uk instead of example.co.uk).

If the proposal goes ahead it would represent a significant change for the .uk namespace and for those who use it including businesses, consumers and registrants of .uk domains. You are invited to a seminar to learn more from Nominet about the proposal and give your feedback on what it could mean for you. Nominet is keen to solicit your expertise and views as part of this consultation.

This is an invitation only event and as places are strictly limited, priority will be given to those who have not previously attended a Nominet meeting on the proposals. Also please note it is only open to BCS and DPA members. Please register your interest in attending by completing the registration form by 4 September 2013. Only delegates with a confirmed registration will be permitted to attend.

I received this email today (2 weeks after my registration for an event on Monday) from Nominet;

Dear Mr Wilde,

Thank you for registering your interest in attending the upcoming event for British Computer Society & Digital Policy Alliance members to discuss Nominet’s proposal to allow registration at the second level in the .uk namespace.

As you may have noted the registration form states that priority will be given to BCS or DPA members who have not previously attended a Nominet meeting on the proposals. Therefore we regret to inform you that we are unable to confirm your attendance at the event.

We do however look forward to receiving your feedback on the proposals.

If anybody is going please, report back on the discussions
and advise if there were any empty spaces?

seems unfortunate that people who are keen to go (who are likely to have been involved in previous meetings) are not able to attend...

is it full?

It is understandable Nominet would give preference to those who want to attend that have not been to a .uk event this time around, if it is oversubscribed.

I would however question whether they are actually filled the meeting room capacity they have booked for the event.

According to information I have received, that is simply not the case,
so both groups should be allowed to attend.

Nominet are probably only looking for pro .uk supporters to go.
