Parking is Down again?

Right now things are slow and a little intermittent - sometimes timing out, sometimes working (for both the parking pages and the admin site).

http://www.ndparking.com/ is coming back fast (no DB access on that? Implies the backend DB is slow for some reason).

Can't help but think the DoS attack was almost exactly a week ago - and the gangs sometimes work on weekly cycles for spam/virus releases etc....hope its just a glitch...

What a sad world we live in.

It turns out that the same people who hit us last Thursday decided that once wasn't enough and will come back for more. We have repelled them once and we look forward to doing so again, this time much more swiftly.
Pages are loading in the majority of cases but also mainly slow.
I think you saw from our previous compensation that you don't lose out in these cases, but I can appreciate that it can be taxing on the patience, so I thank you for your understanding.
We are determined not to let these evil people win.

Ed

I have had troubles logging in for a couple of days - sometimes i can get in sometimes i cant, it does seem like the DB is the cause as the other pages load fast.

10 mins and still waiting to access the DB :( come on ED help us out here! :)

Parking pages also affected, can we have an official update please ED or is this a regular Thursday think now :(

Thanks for letting us know Ed: good luck to the frontline chaps on your traffic management devices - hope the bad guys make a mistake, make it easy to differentiate the traffic, and you can blackhole the zombies.

John - Normal M.O. is to have a couple of pops, then when they get the message they will get nothing they move their resources on. I expect it won't last long. Bad guys do stuff on a weekly tail-end cycle to catch admin resources at their lowest - Nick.

move till its sorted...

move till its sorted then move back.... or get your own hosting, put up a clickbank script and make lots more $! than on parking!

ddos attacks are on the increase... not easy to trace and even harder if you upset the blackhats

ND do promise to compensate, although by my reckoning views / clicks as recorded for Saturday 25th subjectivley were about 25% down on the previous couple of Saturdays, Thursday's & Friday's earning (23/24) seam to have been fully compensated.

Moving across to someone else is fine if you have a few domains, otherwise it is a long term decision !

I'll see what ED has to say.

Hi guys,

To move or not to move is your decision. It depends whether you want to see the parking provider that you have chosen to use go down because of these people or fight back against them.
On the compensation for last week saw Saturday being fairly low, we purposefully weighted Thursday and Friday so hopefully those three days added together were stronger than previously this month, we did our best to make you feel the pain least.
We do have defenses on the way, but this hit us before we could get them fully up.

As far as finding these people is concerned, I beg to differ. We are making great headway and these people are just giving us a lot of great data to feed off. I can't really let onto the size of what's going on here, but it's huge and it's almost an honour. At any rate, our CTO is on the phone with the FBI at the moment, so we may have some interesting posts in the aftermath of this.
For those who've known us for two years now, you may remember there was no closure after 2 large DDOS attacks, but I have a feeling this one will be different.

I apologise for the downtime. We WILL compensate and you won't lose out, it is an inconvenience, I know, but please bear with us and we can only come out of this stronger than before.

Ed

Cheers Ed for taking the time to keep us updated - that is all perfectly fine.

Hope to have a couple of beers at the domain focus!

Cheers
Sean

Hi Sean,

Look forward to seeing you there. We have new shirts...
The worst of it is now over and our defenses have reared their ugly head. We are still watchful. This is hopefully the end of the attack. Now the fun part of finding them can begin.

Have a good evening, everyone.

Ed

mxm - it would be a mistake to move providers imho.

NameDrive are treating us all quite well with the compensation - you're not out of pocket as a result of the attack even though ND will be.

Also by continuing to support them - a parking provider we know to be improving defences - you reduce your chance of future downtime. If you were to move as a result to another parking company, they'd just be a little further down the bad guy's target list, and would likely have weaker defences - you'd just be helping the bad lads in the long run by such action.

Splended - thanks again ED - and thanks as always for looking after me on the hush ;) you know i am not going anywhere ;)

I hope you find who caused the attack - it was funny how since you put the banner saying you have been voted number 1 parking provider you then get an DDOSS attack ;) ummmm

Very well put Nick :)
