I really want to get a Mac have always used a PC but never tried a MAC.

They look cool but what are they like to use?

I sometimes look longingly at Mac Book Pros, but don't want to take the time to switch all my software over. Also, the keyboards on them will leave me in agony on account of the gaps between the keys - I know it sounds mad, but after typing on a keyboard like that for about 30 mins, I will be in agony as it stretches the tendons in my fingers!

Rgds

Well I have recently moved to Mac. I had a Viao running Vista for 2 years (ish) and it eventually did my head in and I had to be off windows. I went to linux for around 6 months and that was great but the hardware was now 30 month old and used for probably 12 hours per day so I decided to get a mac.
I have been very please with the move. I find it very good to use with a proper CLI to use too. Very stable, I have uptime of 37 days right now and probably have had 60 days easily before. Vista used to go 30 day before it it was unusable. Overall I really do recommend the move to Mac.

Just so your aware I am some what of a knowledgeable user though. I am a windows and linux admin by trade. I spend all day every day working with servers and clients. I say this just so you can appreciate my background when digesting my words and evaluate how relivent it is to you.

[edit]And if you want a discount drop me a PM. Ill give you the details of someone to speak to and if you name drop me im sure he will give you a great price. [/edit]

I've had Macs for the last 6 years.
My 24" iMac and MacBook Pro are a pleasure to use. They are not free from crashing every once in a while, but they are definitely better than any PC I've ever used.

Intuitive (you'll pick every thing up) and I would never run windows on it as most software works on Macs. Office (Word, Excel), Photoshop, Dreamweaver, QuickBooks, FileMaker, Final Cut Pro.... Can't name all the software :)

I hardly ever put myself completely behind a product but Macs make working seem less like work. I would never go back.

I don't think I'm a sheep, I just tried both for years and Macs are better. I have stayed away from the iPhone though - I'm more of a Blackberry Bold type of person!

Thanks for the reply's all sounds like i might have to check one out

I'm on my 6th Mac now, have been using them for 17 years, so I'm biased! use a PC too, but no comparison imho. First mac had I had you had to startup from a floppy disk ;)

You didn't add an option for both!

My main computer is a PC but I have a Macbook and iPhone.

I have Mac and Ubuntu laptops. They run Win XP in a VM perfectly. Can't do it the other way round. Mac wins it for me by a long chalk. I do have an XP netbook which I just use for testing stuff.

just ordered a macbook pro 15" :p

this will complete my office setup which includes a G5 & also an imac

my first ever mac was a power 7200 (back in the day when the apple logo was multi coloured!

I love the Apple hardware, but I can never justify spending that much money.

Right now I'm using one of these a 'nettop', I spend most of my day in the shell or the browser, so it manages just fine for me.

true, they are xpensive.

I decided to get a refurbed macbookpro, that saves me £200 odd.

My bro has bought several refurbed ones from apple without any probs so thought I'd give it a try.

PC running SUSE...

Best ever computer experience – SUN Spark Workstations though.

Never really liked Suse. Dont know why, just never found it as good as Ubuntu or a Redhat based machine.

Oh and its Sparc ;)

Ive been playing with windows 7 properly today and Ive got to say it is very good. It is really what Vista should have been. Lots of new toys but most importantly they have removed the bollox which made vista such a pita.

If I were an average home user (ie discounting linux) I would go Mac if I could afford it, Win7 if not.

I got an Imac at christmas time - and as a PC user once you get over the unique 'quirks' of mac - it's great. Lots of things are very well thought out and it makes you say (as a pc user), why don't microsoft copy a lot more of the mac stuff.

Given a couple of weeks, sure you'll be very happy with the decision.

:-:)-:)-( Stupid-stupid spellchecker!!! I sometimes forget to turn it off.

SUSE is just something I use for years… couldn’t be bothered to change the distro…
