great the website i talked about as disappearing was used for phishing...

I wonder if it happened because the admin console had a log in of something stupid like admin!!

Anyway the other sites are ok for now!! will have to get them checked and decide whether to sack the guy in india.

Must increase my learning curve i think!

Hmm, very dodgy!

I would'nt have thought anyone would have guessed the password.

I know with my host if i get the details wrong 3 times, the ip address gets locked.

Have you asked your indian developer?

I have sent an email to the indian guy....it won't be him directly...he comes to the UK next week............he won't show up if its him.....I have met him on several occassions and been working with him about a two years.

The site ghdtw.co.uk had loads of generic holiday domain names directed to it for charity!! I set up a tsunami help site...clearly no longer very helpful!!

I thought I would put domains like caribbeancruises.co.uk to it until I get time to complete a site for each one....very charitable indeed!!

I have be sitting on domain names like dvdrecorders.co.uk for 7 years cause been too busy.....stupid...by the time i get them live they will be as old as a record player

I was in the post office (of all places) and they where selling dvd recorders for £59 Crazy so cheap now

profit margin on dvdrecorders is low and labour intensive...affiliate style make work best.

My india guy said this regarding the phishing:-

Will look into the ghdtw mail server - maybe we did use this as a partof
the blog or message forum address and may have been caught phishing by the
servers. Will remove and keep an alternate mail id instead.

Told him I am not paying for that site....and dont let it happen again!!

My cynical head would say anyone that is prepared to do that and not even attempt to hide guilt needs watchng like a hawke.... not only that, you could lose not only one domain, but potentially loads and get labelled as a serial phisher

Do bare in mind if that was his comment he isnt prepared to stop doing it

Hi Lee,

I had noticed some of your great names over the years and wondered why they weren't used - I suppose the mortgage business has been very good. I would have thought it would take you a couple of days to get your best generic domains parked (with not for sale option - it helps CTR) with sedo or namedrive until you develop. Names like caribbeancruises.co.uk should earn pounds a day. Multiply that by your portfolio and you'll be sitting on a very nice revenue stream/river - it won't matter too much if it takes time to get them developed.

I only came accross sedo recently and being in mortgages didnt really no much.

I am not a techie....my brother who works here is....but we lost the way over the years as the mortgage side has been good.

All I knew was that domain names were a massive tool for my future business. the problem i had was that the web took off in the uk at the same time as buy to let.....about 7 years ago.....i slowed my development of landlord mortgages a little and bought alot of generic domain names....i have about 1400 .co.uk and .com

I must say I will not sell them as I do want to develop them but i have lost out as you say.

I now employ a designer for the graphics side but need techies to put them inforce..

Hi Lee,

Parking them while you wait to develop will give you a good idea of natural traffic. Parking is quite quick and needs no techie knowledge (thank goodness!). I would park your best domains today and see what you earn without any development. After development you could then compare. Parking might even give a better income. The income on the parked domains would more than pay for development. Some of your financial domains might earn £2 a click so the sooner you park the better.

if you ever have to deal with sedo on any issue, you will be frustrated beyond your comprehension.

I've got a sedopro and a namedrive account. Both are good. Sometimes one is better than the other. Service from both has been excellent.

You don't need any hosting.

To park you simply set up an account and either change the nameserver to the one stipulated by sedo or namedrive, or you set up url forwarding (to the address given by sedo or namedrive. The nameserver option may be quicker although we have mostly done url forwarding. You could probably load up about 20 an hour. So pick your very best domains first and start earning later today

Under £30 at ASDA.
We are about to have the HD format wars though, like the VHS/Betamax wars. There is Blue-ray and HD-DVD. My personal feeling is HD-DVD will win out as it is cheaper to produce the lower density discs.
Holographic Versatile Disc is supposed to be a prototype for the generation after.
