Came across this site the other day and tried it out on a site I've developed, got some really helpful information from it.

It's http://peek.usertesting.com and it's free to get someone to test out your site for 5 minutes.

Here's what a tester said about my site:
http://peek.usertesting.com/result/9891027839102?autoplay=true (decided I'm going to delete the slider tomorrow because of this, didn't realise how confusing it was).

Thought it was pretty cool, especially since its free :) Might help out some of you!

That is pretty novel, but you can ask a family member or friend to give you some feedback.

Unless the person looking is some kind of expert?

How did you feel about her feedback?

Erm, erm, erm, erm !!!! Got fed up in the end listening to erm...guess it could be useful.

Could ask family or friends but if I think they tend not to want to point out the bad points.

I thought it was fairly good, just updated the site now with some changes that she mentioned.

Here's a test they've done for one of my sites.

He clicked on an add and started to review the advertisers site :(

lol quite funny, problem is your site is a pretty thin affiliate site so when he's trying to find out stuff theres not much to find to review.

I got a review of an eccomerce site of mine and it was very helpful, in fact i'm 90% sure i'll be paying to use the service after it as it brought up some small issues that hadn't crossed my mind.

I think the service is good for bigger sites rather than a few page sites.

Stupid IMO, all they do is say what they see? why would you take advice from someone that probably has no clue what they are talking about.

Website testing has structure and method, this has none.

It's just like on the news when they ask the opinion of a total numbskull on the street about a complex issue, whats the flipping point, who cares what an idiot thinks about anything.

I actually thought of this earlier today so I do agree in a way. Although for free I'm not going to complain.

When you're developing a site it's easy to focus all of your time and effort on the complex stuff and then forget something that's so obvious (and easy to improve).

This is what I'd use this testing for, just to see is there any stupid things you've forgotten to tweak or whatever.

If you read the rest of what I said you'd understand what I meant.

Yeah I did read everything you said, but I just quoted that bit as I think it is relevant.

As someone said previously just ask anyone, mate, family member and they can give you the same info, probably without the annoying waffle.

These people seem to be passing themselves off as having testing credentials which they obviously don't have, so whats the point in listening to them, hence my quoted bit.

Cheers.

seems like I got a different experience from you guys, person I had was pretty straight forward, did what he was asked and did it in a way that he would have naturally.

You've got to remember that a hell of a lot of people aren't very web savvy and browsing a website will be a completely different process to you and me who look at them 24/7.

:)

What Max said....they made two very good points about my homepage which I changed immediately......a good experience

I tried it, I didnt get any helpful info out of it at all, they didnt point out anything and I doubt the site is prefect, I guess its just pot luck who you get viewing the site to whether it will be helpful.
