I don't really understand why all the threads on this forum are "closed", is there a system to automatically lock threads after a specific period of time?

Anyway, I really wanted to share this nugget of wisdom for the benefit of martin-s and others on here, surprised nobody mentioned it and it made me realise that few probably know that it is possible.....

.... a very good way to grow a facebook following is to BUY another facebook page....

.... and then MERGE that page with your page. Yes I know, it blew my mind too, you can actually merge two pages together (selecting yours as the one which stays alive).

That's the easy bit of course, finding one which operated in your exact niche and no longer required by the admin is the hard bit. Looking into businesses which have ceased trading is the obvious route.

No you can't merge groups. Just pages.

I've merged pages before and a great way to boost stats.

There are quite a few dodgy practices out there though who mass create pages with false info such as this: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-35744044 which is for at fake Total Wipeout Tour.

They got loads of likes.... and then they will merge groups and people suddenly find they're liking something random!

Maybe not exactly related to this topic so Admin please feel free to move it.

Does anyone have any advice on how to promote pages about ¨boring¨ topics.

I own a (non-uk) financial website and have tried just about everything to promote the Facebook page but nothing I do get´s me the traction/interaction I am looking for.

Very tricky with 'boring' topics, I've found it incredibly hard to get any kind of decent interaction for them.

If it's not working I'd just stop trying and turn my attention elsewhere. Facebook simply isn't a very effective marketing avenue for some things.

Just a quick thanks again to this idea. Just merged a page in and near doubled our following. Closing on 20k now :)

Just FYI, if you absolutely need a "£" symbol for something you can get one by holding down the "Alt" key and then keying "0163" on the numeric keypad.

Or of course you can cut and paste it from anywhere it appears :)

Could you share any details ( not specific to the page ) but things such as average activity of the page purchased, how many likes and what kind of cost the page was to retain ?

Would be some nice, none intrusive info for others go on.

Sorry, would prefer not to. Suffice it to say that the audience are 100% relevant and the cost compared very well to running a campaign on FB. There were other upsides too, as I bought the whole website linked to the a/c.

Find a page you like, make an offer and see where it takes you :)

Yes obviously, I was more interested in the cost and activity based on that cost more than finer details to compare purchases already made, but if the page was bundled as a site sale obviously you couldn't put a figure on the page alone. Thanks anyway.

The big lesson is that sharing pictures without links, then using the invite button to follow up people who like the post but not the page yet, is the fastest way we've found to grow a page. Thousands per week easily possible.
