Hi folks

Just had a series of emails from Nominet saying that a number of my domain names which were due for renewal in December were not renewed.

So I looked at my invoices from 123-reg and they are all paid for and of course my debit card has also been charged by them when I renewed it.

So I've fired off an email to 123-reg to see what is happening and also to Nominet.

But has anyone else had this problem with 123-reg taking your money for a renewal but Nominet saying it has not been renewed.

cheers

Leslie

I have just had similar emails from nominet.
Will be ringing 123-reg tomorrow.

If you google for this, you'll find that this is not an uncommon event. I first encountered this a few years ago when a customer forwarded me the email from Nominet and complained that he'd already paid me for the renewal, again like you I had the invoice and the bank statement showed a debit on the same day. They eventually resolved it, however I had to find a contact of a contact who worked at 123 to get it resolved.

The only real way to be sure your names are handled the way you would like them to be is to get yourself a Nominet membership and a TAG and do it yourself, I've not looked back since I signed our company up for membership.

Strange that on my renewals for 17 december there was only one com, which has been renewed. Seems to be a problem with .co.uk

Now gets weirder, as i renewed some domains, com and co.uk, with them yesterday.
Just checked whois, and THEY have been renewed.

thanks for that, found 4 names renewed on the 15 dec that haven't been processed.

Just had an email back from 123-reg (yes, same day and on a sunday, lol)

Kind Regards,

Hopefully 123-reg are sorting this out.

But I wonder why it has happened in the first place.

I usually check my renewals and I'm sure it was showing the correct renewal date the day after I renewed, so there must have been some breadown between 123-reg and Nominet.

We should be told by 123-reg what actually happened.

cheers

Leslie

To be fair, I think this was a Nominet problem and not a 123 problem - it is described as "a Nominet issue" here on their site:

We are aware that some customers may have been sent renewal notices from Nominet in relation to renewing their domains. This is a Nominet issue and an isolated incident for renewals in December however we can confirm that these have gone through and the WHOIS will be updated in the usual 24-48 hours.

On behalf of Nominet and ourselves, we apologise for the inconvenience caused and thank you for your patience while we addressed this matter.

Is it just renewal names that this is an issue for or is it also new registrations?

Just Renewals made in December and you should have got one of these by now:

Invoice for renewal of your domain name from Nominet

We would like to apologise for the fact that on 17 February 2008 you received an email and pro forma invoice from us, the .uk registry requesting payment for the renewal of your domain name.

This email and pro forma invoice were sent by mistake and we would like to assure you that your domain name has been renewed by your registrar, Pipex Communications Ltd. The mistake occurred within Nominet's systems. If you check our WHOIS database from 0600 hrs 19th Feb you will see that the domain name is shown as 'renewed'. You can find the WHOIS database on the home page of our website at:

http://www.nominet.org.uk/

We apologise for any inconvenience these emails have caused. If you prefer to talk to us about this matter you can contact our registrant support team at [email protected] or call us on 01865 332244.
