This is unbelievable, and it is to do with a domain that I held up until this morning...
:mad:
The domain name in question was dannon.co.uk.
It was registered a while back, and recently I received this email:
I can confirm that the address info was correct and accurate and any and all letters would have reached me!

========================================================================
Your Nominet account

Account Name: Matt Warne
Contact Name: Matt Warne
Account Number: 5023026
========================================================================

Dear Matt Warne,

Update of Nominet account information required

The contact information we hold for the account shown is either out of date or incorrect:

Account ID: 5023026
Account Name: Matt Warne
Domain Name(s):
* dannon.co.uk

I have therefore removed the following postal address(es) from the account:

******** address info removed

You must update your contact information by following the instructions that can be found at http://www.nominet.org.uk/go/onlineservices by Thursday the 10 of April, 2008.

Please be aware that if I do not receive this information by Thursday the 10 of April, 2008 the account and domain name(s) held on this account will be suspended. Once a domain name is suspended any service associated with it will stop working. For example, if you use the domain name(s) for email or a web site then these services will stop working. Following a 30 day suspension period the account will be cancelled. On cancellation, all domain names on the account will be available for re-registration on a first-come, first-served basis.

Please contact me if you have any questions.

Regards,
Shabana Rehman

I wasn't too concerned about this - actually thinking about it last night, and now this morning I come and find not only has the domain been deleted, but has mysteriously been regged by a big multi-national.

Regardless of the status of this domain, and not that I'm really affected by it's lost, I find this action disgraceful.
It is reverse hijacking, and deliberate tampering of information for the purposes of serving a big corporation over the little guy...

Have you guys had similar?:mad:

am I reading this right, you had a fake personal name and address and someone who wanted the name noticed that and called Nominet and part of there terms and conditions was to sus the name for 60 days then delete it? but they have just deleted it in one day?

Take them to court mate, if they haven't followed their owns Terms and Conditions to alert you of any problems.

|Put in a freedom of information request to find out who changed what and when and on who's written authority.

Just thank god it wasnt a really valuable domain name. Scary to think this could happen.

Are you saying that your information was 100 percent correct but then changed at a later date by a 3rd party and then reported to Nominet?

Very very strange.

Even though the domain doesnt have any value to you, still follow this up as much as you can and let us know how you get on....

Just checking the timeline here :

- Emailed recieved as above, prior to Thursday the 10 of April, 2008.
- Deadline of Thursday the 10 of April, 2008 to correct information.
- Domain suspended for 30 days from 10th April
- Domain cancelled 12th May.
- Domain registered 12th May by current listed registrant

Out of interest:

i. what date was the inital email recieved (ie. fair amount of time to 'correct' info)
ii. was the address or other info incorrect (some people place nonsense / blank info as the address) ?
iii. any reason for not responding to Nominet's request to update information?

My address info was fine, same as used on many other domains, I don't know why they decided to call it 'invalid'!!!

looks like they have a full house of TLD's and some of the CCD's

any attempt to buy it from you before this happened?

No -- there was no contact whatsoever, so that's why I am annoyed...

The thing was also, when I received that Nominet email, I only remember seeing 'Suspended' rather than '30 days', so I assumed it would be the regular 92/99 days! Drat...

But I will implement a FOI request - thanks for the info, always been wanting to do one concerning something, so now I can try it out!

It still sucks, though...

I would email back asking for details of their complaints procedure, and for a written explaination of why your details were incorrect.

They warned you the domain was going to be suspended for incorrect info and you didn't act on it? I admit it seems strange that it dropped so quickly.

Agreed that is abit of a hole, however if they just edit peoples information without checking a complaint then that is a loophole that is liable to be exploited.

Either by hoping that it means a speedy deletion and catch, or, perhaps remove the 'incorrect' address then lodge a DRS which would never turn up.

There have been instances previously where incorrectly dropped domains, due to Nominet's error, have been returned to their rightful owners.

Nominet deleting a correct address does sound like a cock up to me!

mmmm dannon.

So I know of some decent domains still regged to long disolved companies. And some with dodgey reg details. Perhaps if I email her she will delete the same day for me? :???:

Any update to this, was any complaints / action / further info occuring?
