Hi,

If anyone would like to give me feedback on my scafell pike site I'd appreciate it.

The site is basically content and information focused and tried to be as informative as possible about all aspects of scafell pike including weather, maps, equipment you needs, routes you can take and more.

It's not meant to be a money making web site as such, so i'm looking for feedback on useability, how easy to read, how informative etc.

I've gone with a basic theme which should keep the focus on the content.

Any feedback/advice welcomed good or bad.

Thanks

Hi ILRT,

I like it - I think it's informative, well written, to the point and very useful for amateur walkers and those who are more seasoned alike.

My brother walks often and gets very cross with others who think several miles of walk can be attempted without the proper gear and equipment (he always has this too) and performed in a flimsy shirt!

So, it's good to see you have a section on equipment as some people will just not realise what they need to take. Do you think it would be useful to include a piece on what to do if you get into trouble on a walk (e.g. get hurt)?

Also, I do like the clean look, but I feel more images would break up the text just a little, especially in the longer sections to help the reader? Just my opinon though as others may prefer just text. :)

Just a minor issue, to me the logo doesn't look quite 'right'. Maybe it's the font, or the way the text is placed next to the header image?

I'm sure it'll be a big hit with those who enjoy walking, good luck with it.

Hi Mate,

Thanks a lot for that, agree with the header looking wrong I'll change that.

Also i think i agree that more images are needed where the content is particularly wrong, so I'll do this also.

Added some more useful info on emergency procedures, and will add some more. definitely a good idea for people to know what to do if something goes wrong.

Thanks very much again.

sorry, posted in error.

Couldn't see the delete button ?!

Thanks mate, I'll have a look into it.

Been a bit busy with other stuff so this is for next week now to add the images as suggested, change the header and look at the plugin.

Much appreciated.

Hi. Some comments :

- a solid, straightforward informational site

- I agree with earlier comments about the lack of images and the logo

- the heading fonts seem a bit inconsistent (sometimes different sizes for same level in the hierarchy)

- have you got your OS Landranger and Explorer definitions the wrong way round ?

- coincidentally I happen to know the Ratty goes through Fisherground which made me check out the "Fishground" campsite in the Eskdale area : that "lucky" hit made me worry slightly about the accuracy of some of the other detail

- I liked your engaging personal writing style ... although I would probably soften the comment about Cancun cocktail prices !

- maybe have an explicit link to the privacy policy etc from the bottom of the page

- there's a scaRfell on the privacy page

- the accommodation page doesn't have external links, not even in the cases where you actually give the URL

Hope that helps,
David

Thanks David, it does help a lot.

I dont think the maps are the wrong way round and can't see what you mean?

I happen to know the Ratty goes through Fisherground which made me check out the "Fishground" campsite in the Eskdale area : that "lucky" hit made me worry slightly about the accuracy of some of the other detail.

Simple typo well spotted again. . I live within 10 mins of it so know the area pretty well, for that reason it should be fairly accurate.

- maybe have an explicit link to the privacy policy etc from the bottom of the page. Yes deffiently as soon as I figure out how to remove the footer links there without messing up the theme!

- there's a scaRfell on the privacy page - Well spotted Sir thank you.

- the accommodation page doesn't have external links, not even in the cases where you actually give the URL. - I'm on it.

My pleasure. My maps comment was based on my understanding that Landrangers are 1:50000 but Explorers are 1:25000 (ie twice as much detail, or four times in two dimensions), and intuitively this conflicts with your statement that "The Ordnance Survey “Landranger” series are the best Scafell Pike maps to take with you on your walk, as they show the area in greater detail than the standard OS “Explorer” maps.".

David

Excellent thanks a lot, I'll double check tomorrow and put it right. I have both maps but not with me, It might have been the case that even though one was supposed to be more detail the other was actually showing more detailed info, or could also be the case it was written at 4am, but who knows.

Haven't used a map to go there for 20 years though!

Much appreciated.
