Secret underground city

I started off looking at unusual properties for sale like castles and ended up on this very interesting site Burlington bunker it's a 35 acre undeground city in Wiltshire which was kept secret by the MOD

If you look at the photo's note that this is suppose to be an abandoned and disused place where people only go down once in a blue moon yet 1 photo shows at least 4 electric vehicles on charge ?? how odd ???

Its probably safe to say, if there is a bunker for 2012 its not on this planet!!

When I was a lot younger I used to live in Rudloe, pretty much everyone locally knew of it's existence. You only had to drive around to see the various vents & shafts which would all be sectioned off in otherwise open fields. Me and a few mates planned for months to get in (James Bond style) via one of the vents ....

It was also common knowledge that inside Box tunnel had a secret siding that accessed the underground tunnel system, again we planned that for another exploration adventure, Box tunnel however is almost 2 miles in length and we decided it too risky (& scary with the regular trains to london hurtling by at a rate of knots), what wimps we were lol

Living in Rudloe, next to the RAF station was a pain if you were into sideband radio (unlicenced) as I was. I had a couple of 'visits' from them as my radio (with 500 watt burner) was interfering with their systems, oh the good 'ol days!

Not very "secret" is it . Looks pretty cool.

We've got tunnels under ramsgate down by me, several entrances (most blocked or locked). Always wanted to have a nose round them.

I would love to go in there and nosey but the entrance is even on MOD land so no chance.

I heard about that box tunnel entrance leading to the London underground :-?

The whole thing makes me think of fallout 3 :-|

Ideal for someone who wants to grow copious amounts of weed. Not much chance of the heat from the lamps getting picked up by police helicopters.

I used to live near there, in Swindon. Could have done with an underground bunker.

I'd rather die in the apocalypse than go anywhere near again though

I had a meeting with some of the MOD guys in about 1990 at Rudloe Manor, it was a much nicer place then (or so it seemed) than the sad pictures I've just seen of it on the internet, it looks in a right sorry state. I used to visit RAF Corsham too, I wouldn't have guessed that that rather scruffy camp was sitting over such a significant installation.

For what I've read mate, not all of it is being sold off, some is being retained for use by the RAF and navy.

Also I would imagine you can't just offer 5m but would have to prove the finances to do something with it, let's hope the national museum or whatever it's called buy it and preserve it 8)

Yeh the underground is getting sold off as condition of sale purchasing underground bunker you have to comit to invest in the base ontop .

I love all these secret underground sites. When I lived in London I went into a few tunnels I should not have and have some pretty interesting things. There are many unused underground stations - that are sometimes used for filming. For people who want to see more unused sites around the planet - you will all love this site:

I work quite close to it.

There is a similar one a few miles away which is definitely used, I know someone who works there. All very hush hush

I heard a rumour once that one of the bunkers nearby has a direct link to Bunckingham Palace or Number 10.

What I find odd is that a London underground historian who has discounted a lot of rumours says that the lifts and a spiral staircase at Watson station are under the control of the MOD, makes you wonder what's under there ?

I have noticed in London signs saying 'strictly no digging' so what's under there ?

Probably cables. There are all kinds of things underground from passenger trains to mail trains. There are also plenty of service and utility tunnels. Its amazing what you can find below ground in the smoke.

What a great idea! 5000 domainers in a bunker, the only people left on earth.
We could trade domains between us for food.
No having to explain what a keyword is.
No having to explain what type-in traffic is.
No quoting of "exacts", they'll all be 0.
No meaningless thread bumping.
No offers by PM/post in thread confusion.
All the menial jobs will have to be performed by .org.uk owners.
And the best news of all, there will be no need for development!
