self reg is faster than catching services?

How can someone using fasthosts.co.uk (not a drop catching service) be faster than all three of my domain catchers?

did you watch the domain drop? It is possible that the domain was registered and then released to fasthosts, it's only a few lines on an automaton PGP email or XML for an EPP request. Some tag holders seem to prefer 3rd party domain management rather than having their own management and keeping domains on their own TAG.

New owner is a tagholder, so may have caught then moved to FASTHOSTS very quickly - have seen similar before

Self catching will always be MANY MANY times faster than catching services.

Roughly people can poll the dac 4 times a second 24/7, if your polling 12 names, you can only check each domain once every 2-3 seconds or risk running out of polls in the 24 hour period.

A personal script or one by chris at caught or dale at dropsystem dac hosting, you may only be catching 1 or 2 domains a day, which makes you 16-20x faster than the catch service with say 12 names booked.

It's a large investment for a one man band, but with planning and hard work can work out OK. Just be prepared to lose... alot. Go for middle value names and you'll be fine.

No both together. What i'm saying is this, it takes a long time (especially if your not a script nerd) to compete. If you base the financial decision to have a tag etc on catching £10k names, then it would be wrong to do so.

It all depends how many names you are looking to catch.

If you want to catch 1,2,3 or 4 names per month then you are 'probably' better to stick with a catching service (it does depend on quality of names though).

If you want to catch 1,2,3 or 4 names per day then join Nominet and get your own catching software or sign up to one of Chris or Dales packages.

A few things to consider though.

1. If you dont know who Chris or Dale are, then you seriously dont know enough about dropcatching to set up your own Tag and dropcatch so stick with a catching service for now.(HINT: if you are regularly using a catching services then theres a good chance you are using one of Chris or Dales so see what other services they offer).

2. Old school cachers, ie catchers who made a killing on prenoms or earlier (or the *Golden two*) are either no longer dropcatching, or spending very little time/ resources doing so.

This fact alone should suggest that:-

1. The time for making obscene money from dropcatching alone has long gone (Dev is a big part now).
2. There are better/easier/quicker ways to make money online now - assuming you know what you are doing .

As a final footnote - Just remember alot of the information you need to make money online is on this forum somewhere, you just need to find it, understand it and use it.

Whenever i see Chris and Dale (in that order) is it wrong that I get the theme tune to Rescue Ranger only with the lyrics 'Chr-chr-chr-Chris and Dale, Domain Rangers, Chr-chr-chr-Chris and Dale, When there's drops, their there', I can't remember any other lyrics

I believe RTL only catches for themselves but I maybe wrong, but they do Dac Hosting as does Chris at Caught.
