I have been doing a little research over the last two weeks, using the SOWPODS scrabble dictionary, and I have come up with the following data.

Total Number of Words: 12,478
Registered Domains: 8,330 (66%)
Expire in the next 30 Days: 449 (3.5% of the total domains, 5% of the registered domains)

Does anybody else do research like this? :p

I think most of us do, dictionaries, movie names, characternames, places, first names, surnames, professions.

Most people don't maintain an active database though.

SOWPODS is like a dictionary, it includes all the dictionary words allowed in a game of scrabble, I am going through it to try and reduce it from the , I can't find a standard dictionary text file.

I understand there is one on UNIX and Mac systems, I just can't find it.

I am going through to try and reduce from the 267,751 words included within, to a more manageable list of top words, but it's taking time.

In OSX (imac) there's this file:

/usr/share/dict/web2 (which is linked from /usr/share/dict/words)

It's full of words!

Use terminal; cd to the directory and then view the web2 file using vi or another text editor. It should be read only, but if not be careful with unintended modifications.
