I sell a domain, provide free transfer - and say that I will release to another Registrar free of charge ...

but the buyer prefers to make a £12 donation to Nominet coffers, for the same service!

With recent sales this has become a more frequent scenario. Admittedly, it is small beer, but still a waste of money.

If its an end user who doesn't know the process and doesnt know how to check whois etc, they probably see Nominet handling and giving notification of the transfer as more secure/trustworthy that the domain has actually been transferred..........at a guess.

Dear Registrar,

The domain names listed below have been renewed by the Registrant directly with
us (Nominet). They are all on the XXXXXX tag.

****.co.uk

Domain name registration and renewal (2 year period) Non-members £80.00

A similar scenario ...

Enquiry for domain listed with BIN price £650. Discount offered, but no response.

Now an opening offer of £300 through Godaddy. Upfront cost to use this service £50.
To proceed, buyer would incur an additional Godaddy charge of £60 (commission 300 x 20%) If I accept £500, total cost to buyer would be £680 including Godaddy VAT.

I can confidently say that these enquiries are from the same company, but I fail to understand the logic of this approach.

Yup - Had 2 this month like this. Had to read up on how to do the old Nominet tango as I don't think I had ever done it before.
