On the end of the November PAB meeting report:

http://www.nic.uk/digitalAssets/9985_PAB47_meeting_report.pdf

Clive Feather stated that there was a problem with the PAB rules, as the way things stand at the moment, either 3 or 5 PAB members are elected in alternate years when it should be 4 per year. This needed to be remedied before the next elections. Clive offered to draft some wording to be agreed by PAB members.

Also since then I have heard Richard Martin has resigned from the PAB?

How many elected members does that put up for "renewal" in March?

Also it means there is now no "Domainer" on the PAB? When every other "special interest group" as they call us seems to be represented.

Also I notice on the PAB Work Programme for 2006/07 it says:

May 2007 Domaining (1 of 2) Should Nominet have a policy on domaining/dropcatching?

All us domainers must do our best to keep a presence on the PAB otherwise we are going to be walked over more than at present .The less domain names become available the more big business/Nominet will try any excuse to give them to the "money men" (all friends of Mr Gilbert perhaps, lol).

What puzzles me is why it is ok to trade in personalised number plates, ok to trade in phone numbers, but when it comes to domainers it seems to be treated as of we are doing something unethical as best and at worst illegal. The line being drawn by DRS decisions is making it much harder to carry out what should be a legitimate trade that has benefits for Nominet, but instead Nominet seem to be happy to take our money and then treat us unfairly with a DRS weighted in favour of anyone with money.

two spaces open?

Current PAB members whose term of office ends next year are:

Jason Johns

Sebastien Lahtinen

Hazel Pegg

Normally there should have been 4 on this list but due to the resignation of Dr Willie Black and the subsequent co-option (then election) of Clive Feather things are a bit twizzle-wozzled. Five people were elected to the PAB in 2005.

This issue was addressed at the last PAB meeting but a solution has not yet been ratified.

Normally there would be four places open to be filled.

Hazel,

How does one get onto the PAB ?. I know someone that im sure would be interested and would be very good for us domainers to have on PAB ?. Initials are A H for anyone that may know him.

You just write a good enough election statement like this Statements then get two Nominet members to propose and second you and then submit all of it to Nominet at the PAB election in March.

Then looking at the results from the PAB election in 2005 on the bottom of:

http://www.nic.uk/digitalAssets/5511_2005_PAB_election_archive.pdf

Looks like you need at least 45 - 65 member votes to get on.

But as you can see when Clive replaced Willie - second votes are also important.

Also will Jarrod Robinson (Pipex) 2006 Results replace Richard Martin or will they just wait until March?

If Angus was to stand then I wouldn't stand so he could have my votes - I'm sure Angus will also stand for the board again.

Thanks for the info. We at Acorn then should all get behind one person, perhaps Angus if he is interested, and then promote him and get him in place.
