Todays directory business model

Hi all,

I have a couple good geo domains that id like to develop. Is the directory / review site still valid these days ? How would you guys approach setting up for a town these days ?

I would imagine it would be pretty hard to get businesses to pay for a listing as they are so well served by Facebook and Google My Business.

You are also going to be competing against the website of your local newspaper.

If you are going to do it, then I would say you need to have very strong content, probably lots of video content, to make any headway.

@philiporchard do you mind me asking if you develop yours? From reading the threads recently you seem to be very geo orientated.

Some of my domains have quite out of date sites on them (the websites were launched about 10yrs ago and haven't chaned since then). The rest are waiting to be plugged into the network.

Becuase the sites have been around a while and have hundreds of links they rank highly for some search terms.

They are due for a design update, which I anticipate will take place next spring.
