.us domain national restrictions question

I've been reading the rules about registering .us domains, and there is a requirement for the registrant to be an American entity:

Has anyone here been registering .us domains, and in which case what options are available to comply with the rules.

I regged one myself (giving my Oz address) and it was fine. I was told that it it's OK because the registrar itself is based in the US, i.e. Godaddy.
