Has anyone used either of these.

I am 1/2 tempted to try the vbulletin publishing suite, its about £150 one off fee, but handles blogs, forums, cms in one package and allows users to have their own blogs etc.

Have seen a few posts about slating it a bit for being slow, bits now working etc, so trying to find some users.

Thanks
Simon

It's just been implemented at 'another' forum (DNF) - personally I'm not impressed. I know VB have had it in extensive beta but I'd wait a year before I tried it and would meantime stay with the forum only element, combined with WP if I needed the CMS component.

Thanks aZooZa

Would you recomend version 4 of the forum (or aviod this aswell as the full suite)?

If so whats the most stable version of VB?

Cheers

Simon,

From one of my admin panels (realtime update):

Latest version available: 3.8.4 Patch Level 2

Also they say:

VBulletin 4.0.0 PL1 / 3.8.4 PL2 / 3.7.6 PL2
An exploit in our input validation has recently been discovered. This could allow a brute force attack to comprise and spoof input data for a given user. To resolve this issue, it is necessary to release a patch level version of the active versions of vBulletin.
The upgrade process is the same as previous patch level releases - simply download the patch from the Members Area, extract the files and upload to your webserver, overwriting the existing files. There is no upgrade script required.
As with all security-based releases, we recommend that all customers upgrade as soon as possible in order to prevent any potential damage resulting from the flaw being exploited.
If you are already running 3.7.6, 3.8.4 or 4.0.0, the process you will be required to follow to make your board immune to this flaw is very simple.
There is no need to run an upgrade script if you are already running the latest version.
Visit the Patches section of the vBulletin Members' Area (http://members.vbulletin.com/patches.php) and download the patch for the version you are using, then extract the files from the archive you downloaded, then upload the files to your board via FTP etc., overwriting the existing files. This will update your version to the latest patch release.
Upgrading from an earlier version
If you are not already running 3.7.6 or 3.8.4, you should download the latest version from the Members' Area and perform an upgrade as normal.
Full instructions for upgrading vBulletin are available here.
Download vBulletin 4.0.0 PL1 / 3.8.4 PL2 / 3.7.6 PL 2
vBulletin Manual

As usual, the version released today is available for all customers with valid, active licenses to download from the vBulletin Members' Area.

All nice and confusing as you'd expect. I would try and get 3.8.4 PL2 if I were you.

Cheers.

Will be moving to vb4 later in the year. Stil on 3.x.x. No rush. Ain't broken why fix it.

Yeah im not all that happy either.
Ive only got it at testing phase so far as Im not happy enough to make the change to the live forum.

Im quite tempted to move my other forums to IPB when the need comes.

What really annoys me is I wanted to upgrade to the latest 3.x version but my license had expired so options were leave it at 3.7.x or buy 4.

Cant see a way to get a legit copy of an older copy of VB.

So was looking at PHPBB, so now i have to decide new PHPBB or jump in with VB4 forum only and deal with any issues as they arrise..

hummmmm... i hate picking new software!

You could buy someone elses valid VB3 License though that would seem like waste to me.

Have you looked at IPB. They have a good CSM addon.

I will have a look .. not too fussed about the CMS stuff though.

The site is pretty much going to be the forum, so just want a good forum from the start.
