Wanted: Domain Appraisal Webcam.co.uk & Webcams.co.uk

Hi guys,

we are the owners of these domains and asked Sedo for an appraisal. We are not happy with wat they have told us so i would like to ask you guys some feedback.

Nice pair, I think with the increase in video type calls and increase awareness of the likes of Skype it will increase it's value, however I think that as more and more people will own laptops with webcams intergrated this will hold back the value.

There still is of course all the other applications, business, pc's, etc

I reckon the pair low £xx,xxx

I guess the thing with appraisals is that they are completely subjective. Sedo's take is more than likely based on past sales and current demand as they see it rather than any real notion of commercial value to specific buyers.

They're nice enough names, but the potential value IMO is going to vary massively depending upon the viewpoint of the purchaser and the intended use.

I know that the sales of the .com equivalent names were driven by adult service providers, but I've seen a lot of reports that UK adult names / services don't do too well commercially, and most of the demand for these keywords is adult related.

My guess would be highish £x,xxx and upwards for the pair, but that could get to mid £xx,xxx if the demand was there from multiple buyers. Depends on how forced (and or well marketed) any sale is I think.

This was my first thought too having just bought a new laptop and I see some desktop monitors also have built-in webcams these days.

In some ways it reminds me of mobilephones.co.uk, domainers always have to be careful not to hold on to tech-related domains for too long.

Google Trends clearly shows the interest in webcams is markedly off its peak.

They're great domains but in my opinion they'll be depreciating rather than appreciating as time moves on so not ones to hold on to for the long term unless they're developed.

Nearly every laptop has a webcam built in now and I think that is the reason for the down turn with search results from consumers.

BUT... online video content and the use of webcams will be increasing and so it may help raise searches again if someone wants more control over the camera if live or recording rather than fixed to the laptop screen. Who knows?

Nice domains but may be a domain set to count stock and sell now.

Price no idea, It's a hard one!

Hard pricing? But retailer would probably pay less than a existing web based business i.e. (web manufacturer as opposed to sex site), To make a site basically for the uk cost the same as global one? Does the exclusivity of uk market detract or attract? Best way to maximise profit would be some sort of development? Even a simple affiliate page would probably make more than you are at present?

Sitting on technology term generics to long is always a risky strategy as a product will come along and replace it or the term can be superseded or abbreviated?

To get a more accurate you need previous sales in other languages, similar terms, site static’s, revenue etc all help. Also previous offers did you just decline them all or no one was interested in the price? That can tell you that your price is presently unachievable so somewhere in-between sedo and your valuation may be?

There are so many other things to take into account that any real pricing is purely guess work without…? If you research buyers, market well etc no reason to not get £15k +
