I went along to the Domain Focus event, saw some friends I already knew there and hopefully some pals of the future.

It really opened my eyes, as I don't think of myself as a domainer (though do think of myself as a search engine spammer) and after a kick up the arse from Doug this weekend just gone in Manchester (a small 50 odd people, freebie SEO get together) decided to show my face in here to learn more about the industry and say hello.

So hello everyone :)

I know there has been some "discussion" about the DF event but as an outsider looking in, it was a real eye opener for me and some huge things stood out for me.

1stly there are some great people who are at the coalface of domaining in the UK. I don't mean the big boys such as Dan etc (however nice he is) but ordinary down to earth blokes who are garnering domains and have built or are loking to build a long term business / investment with their domain equity.

2ndly the industry is hugely experienced and mature in certain areas but so immature in others. It reminds me a lot of the search business a few years ago and it is this that excites me.

It isn't quite the wild wild west but more akin to a busy summertime in Cornwall. West? for sure, just with a British slant and charm and not so wild :)

I hope to be more of a regular here and look to build some new relationships and take a lot of the discussions I had at DF forward to hopefully mutual benefit. And if these things don't happen, well most of all I hope new friendships are forged :)

I look forward to chatting with you all.

Thanks

Jason

Welcome Jason. There's some acorn get togethers being organised if you have a look at the threads.

Hi Jason,

Was good meeting you at DF, you certainly had some interesting points to make!

Its Richard, we spoke very briefly after you were on the SEO panel. And one of the more memorable quotes of the evening must be "Hi, my names Jason and i'm a search engine spammer".

Rich

dan warner has done nothing in .uk and doesnt own a .uk as far as I know.

unless that means Sedo / Parked.com / Bodis are all 'big players' in .uk as well.

They register them under the name 'Domain Active Pty. Ltd' They have about 4,500. I can't find many that I would want though :)

A lot of typos and loads of American terms that are a waste of time. Some words like attorney, vacations, personalized, cellular, diapers ......

They should just delete half of them and save themselves some money, although some might be harder to get rid of than others genitalherpes.co.uk:mrgreen:

welcome jason

Dan was the keynote speaker at Domain Focus last month. As a company we do own a number of .co.uk domains and also picked some up at the DF Auction.

We are always looking to expand our reach in the UK market, as Dan mentioned in his speech, you don't have to park your .co.uk domains with companies based in the UK/EU.

If anyone is interested in testing some domains with us, let me know and I'll get you set up.

Cheers,

Mike
