ok, so short domain names are hard to come by, but what makes a short, lets say 4 letter domain name, valuable.

I have a couple on my watchlist for payday (which are unregistered) which I'm tempted to acquire, though most are .info domains which im wary of starting my portfolio with, there is a .co.uk domain name on my list which im kinda surprised hasn't been snapped up already.

There are a few other .co.uk 4 letter domains that are posibilities too though they're maybe a little random to be worthwhile, so what makes a really short domain valuable? does it have to be a word? or just look like a word? or just easy to pronounce? etc....

Always ask yourself "who would buy these?" because that's usually where the value is. If it is unlikely anyone will buy them then the value can only really come from traffic or development. If they are free to register the chances there is no traffic so are you willing to develop? If the answer is no then don't buy as there is no value.

I wouldn't buy random 4 letter domains unless you have a clear strategy to either sell or develop. Similarly, .info probably wouldn't be the best place to start. Even if you develop them, the domain has less credibility, and therefore value, than say .com, .co.uk etc.

If you're spending your hard earned cash it may be worth saving up a couple hundred quid and buying something on DomainLore that can be sold to an end user or developed.

Short domains a rarely real world valuable its only domainers that like them most business don’t see them as anything at all sort after * with the odd exception of ones that are words etc?

If you must waste your time on them go for easy to pronounce, remember and not confuse ( brand orientated ) or descriptive but chances are they are all long gone... If there .info wouldnt even bother?

Given that even 3-letter .info domains are pretty much worthless (unless you happen to "get lucky", but that's not something I'd hold my breath expecting) I imagine 4-letter ones must be utterly worthless (assuming they're just "random collection of letters" domains, not "strong 4-letter generic" domains like loan.info of course)

Outside of all the normal parameters - ie, words or recognition

Pronounceable in .COM only, is the short answer

Though there will be lots of other elements that come into play to make 'Individual' sales and usage unique

Yesterday, I saw several vans belonging to a company with a 4 word business name. Their domain is a 4 letter .co.uk (coincidental with my wondering whether it was worth it keeping/acquiring 4 letter .co.uk names)! There is a small market for 4 letter domains (in reasonable extensions of course). I believe a demand for 4 and 5 letter domains will rise when the 3 letters have all been traded, and as such I think it is not a bad idea to invest in them for the future.
