I don't have a problem fighting a corner -and i'm kind of attached to most of my registrations (this one is mine since 2004, and unused as a co.uk domain)

But I'm still trying to get my head around why some entity thinks it worthwhile to go for (5 years later in 2009) UK TM registration as a usable identity (granted and registered within its class)

I'd be very interested in any observation or consideration I may have missed.

One of us is definately throwing money away, mine admittedly small, theirs potentially large and very wasteful. I don't doubt for one minute this body may have previously traded under a "what works" identity but it certainly wasn't in the public domain. and not protected. There's no challenge pending in regard to my 6 year old registration - just my curiosity and interest

Assuming the the TM is unrelated at present to your domain then there could be numerous other reasons why they would apply for a TM at this point - changing business model, increased competition in the space, a competitor trading off their name an so on.

Maybe they didn't have the money to support a TM application X years ago? If it is related in some way to your domain name maybe they are trying to protect themselves against your (unused thus domain) ever being used within their industry in the future, even wrt parking adverts?
