Seb Clark, he is catching quite a few Ive seen the name pop up....whats a DRS mail?

as I dont use any scripts, ive been using snapnames to try and get me some drops, however it seems to fail quite alot.

I have not been able to get any prenoms, am I wasting my time?

What else can a standard user to to try and grab a domain?

Yes Snapnames is often a waste of time for UK domains (often the best for .com and .net though).

The best public UK catcher is www.dropcatcher.co.uk

But your best bet is to contact people like aquanuke or gweaver on this forum and see if they will catch prenoms for you.

frankly yes - many people have spent thousands on scripts and had years of practice and experience generally just to catch the decent prenoms. You can ask but a decent name is going to be the target for most of the dropcatchers so dont set expectations too high :D

obviously with dropcatcher if a slot for a particualr domain is already taken I cant use them right?

What are the others like snapnames I can use for .coms?

I think the more companies I have chasing 1 .com domain for the more chance I have in getting it right?

correct - first come first served basis

You can try but I dont think I've ever seen them have any success with .co.uk's

this is the same for dot uks the more machines you have trying to target one domain the higher your chances - if you have more than one monitoring nominet you'll get into the situation described in the "mr and mrs" thread :-D

with dropcatcher, if I buy a credit, and they do a search for a prenom, if its a good one, will they give me the domain, or keep it for themselves and say they didnt get it?

Also I presume I only use the credit once the domain is purchased?

No they have a hotline to my dacphone that tells me its free and then they tell you its booked. You can of course still pay if you want. :p

If the name is available to book and you book it, dropcatcher will attempt to catch it in your name so it will be registered to you. They have caught hundreds of valuable names for others to date.

Ok, nice at least I feel more comfortable now!

Thanks Diablo

No problem. The credit is used to book a slot by the way - if they don't get the name your credit is returned to your account. I like dropcatcher - always found them trustworthy and they have caught me some good names over the last few years.

Chris and co are professionals. They have more competition these days. But that's the nature of the game. Internet + business = money.
