Hi all, just wondering if it's worth buying a .org.uk domain, it's 2 short words, but all the other domains below with the same 2 words have been taken, only the .org.uk version is still available. The words gets quite a lot of searches, using the Google keyword tool, it gets 110,000 monthly searches for the exact 2 word xxxxxx phrase with no spaces, and 1,220,000 monthly searches for it as 2 words with a space in between, your thoughts, as I'm thinking, why hasn't anyone else bothered taking it?

xxxxxx.com = Taken
xxxxxx.net = Taken
xxxxxx.org = Taken
xxxxxx.info = Taken

If it's the only one left it's a good sign. If it's a generic term then it sounds like it's worth buying.

I didn't go through with it in the end, it never occured to me that it was a heavily trademarked name, but never mind, I did a load more domain name searching, mainly looking for .org.uk sites with high search terms for the words/words in the domain name, and where all the other top level domains have been taken, I just bought 3 domains about 10 minutes ago that fitted that criteria :cool:, not sure what you think of these 3 below?.

I'm not looking solely for memorable/marketable names, just stuff which might generate some traffic/clicks from high searches on the words:

fleece.org.uk = 110,000 exact searches for "fleece"
artnouveau.org.uk = 110,000 exact searches for "art nouveau"
crib.org.uk = 49,500 exact searches for "crib"

I am going to stick those online in the next half hour, just a single page with one Google ad and a Google search box for now.

I have quite a few others lined up with search terms from 20,000 upwards, I will definitely be buying more .org.uk's soon.

I usually buy my domains through Dynadot, but it cost me £13.59 (includes £2.47 for privacy) to register just one .co.uk domain there a few days ago, so I had a look around this forum, looking for a registrar that accepted PayPal, I saw there was some good and some bad stuff written about 123-reg, but thought I might as well take a chance with them, registration was a breeze and only £6.56 for each domain, a bargain compared to Dynadot, although Dynadot do low prices for all their other domains.

^ I have also used 123 reg and never had a problem with them. Great prices too!

There are still loads of available .org.uk 's that you could make money with. I have just found (and reg'd!) lemons.org.uk

Okay, I've found a one-word, six-letter .org.uk, all the others (.com, .co.uk etc) are taken, and this particular word has an average of 1million searches a month according to Adwords - so, do I go for it?

Is that 1 million exact searches? - Does the word have any commercial value - for example what is the average CPC (in Google keywords tool)?

I haven't been doing this long enough to even understand your question - sorry for being an ignoramus!

All I did was put the word into the Google keyword tool, and it returned 1m searches for October, and 1m average monthly searches for that one specific word.

As for CPC, am I right in thinking the higher the CPC the less value the word, or have I got that the wrong way round?

This is frustrating, I may as well just post the available domain name on this site and ask for your opinions as to whether it has or had any value

Then, if someone regs it before me, well all power to them, the advice will have been worth it!

select exact results from the drop down box. The higher CPC the better as eg for adsense you will get paid more per click (as it costs the advertiser more in adwords).

@ Louie, it seems a few of us newer members get caught out by that Google keyword tool being set to "broad" search by default, I thought I had found loads of domains with high keyword searches before finding that out :lol:

I bought a few more .org.uk's today, I had planned on buying the "thermal" domain, liked the look of that one with 33,100 exact searches and avg cpc £1.36, I had it on my notepad for the last couple of days, but I didn't have enough to buy it, only had about £4 in the bank :lol:, until today that is, so off I went to register it, only to find someone else registered it just today before I did :mad:

Anyway, I ended up buying these 7 domains in the end, what do you reckon to them?:

vwcampervan.org.uk = 60,500 exact (vw camper van) - avg cpc £0.63 + 33,100 exact (vw campervan) - avg cpc £0.62
vwcamper.org.uk = 368,000 exact searches - avg cpc £0.54
giftset.org.uk = 40,500 exact searches - avg cpc £0.93
giftsets.org.uk = 49,500 exact searches - avg cpc £1.42
espresso.org.uk = 40,500 exact searches - avg cpc £1.05
onlinedictionary.org.uk = 201,000 exact searches - avg cpc £0.32
bivvy.org.uk = 74,000 exact searches - avg cpc £0.71

They don't appear to have any domain parking on 123-reg, where would be the best place to register and park any of these domains until I get around to doing something with them?

Sedo would be the easiest place to register and park those domains whilst you research what to do with them. Please note that if you have not yet registered with sedo you can get £1 for doing so - see TCB)

Some good names there mate, especially onlinedictionary.

As Grant suggests, org.uk domains are on the up! We're getting more and more bookings for them on the drop these days.
