Same again - I'd appreciate ideas/thoughts on this.

It's an awesome domain name, has an absolute truckload of searches.

THIS domain I actually have a real clue about utilising.... I come from a recruitment background, and I'm thinking about creating a CV collection site, free submissions of CV's etc.

Can then start up a recruitment company and bobs your uncle.

Any ideas or proposals on this? We'd both be very interested in hearing your thoughts.
 
At 5,400 exacts and $1.91 CPC that's got to be worth low £x,xxx to a quantity surveyor.
 
Ownership

It's slightly complex.

I had a business meeting with the "owner" of this site 2 weeks ago. He registered it through a domain company that he's friends with. He needs to transfer the ownership into his name, but yes, it is 100% his and the transfer agreement is already in place.

In terms of it being worth £x,xxx , I see the potential being a lot larger if a recruitment agency was created from it.... you can charge 30% fees for finding a CV that fits a roll. Just finding 1 good quantity surveyor and getting paid would already achieve £x,xxx

Odd arrangement but sure. It's generally not the done thing to ask for appraisals on names that you don't own personally though.

You would then be selling a website with revenue though, not just the domain. These are two completely different things. At the moment you've got a domain name and an idea in your head, any valuations you get at the moment can only be based on the domain.

I've seriously lost count of the amount of times i've posted that reply over the years :)

I guess therefore, the domain is not for sale. But... offers of investment, or partnership are very open.

Hope that clarifies things (Taking £x,xxx for that domain I think would be like selling a ferrari and trading it in for a Fiat Uno lol)

Grant has made a good point.

I don't think you will find anyone to invest or partner with you, as if the value is only £x,xxx (which I would say it probably is) then it's not out of most people's reach to purchase it from you. There are many people on here with £xx,xxx+ domains which would love to get quality partners to develop domains for them, as I have seen a few posts of this nature.

If you are valuing it at higher than £x,xxx then you probaby won't be able to get any interest, and therefore no buyer. Catch 22. Would recommend you either develop it yourself (which includes paying someone to do it for you) or sell the domain off to someone who can.
 
Having worked in my previous job for a leading qs company for many years I would bet my last penny on you never getting much or a sale to a qs company. x,xxx not a chance.

Recruitment don't be daft.

So you need a London based QS company to buy it IMO.

I hope you haven't enthused your client as much as you have yourself over this domain as he will feel pretty peeved when in 12 months he still owns it with only your oasis in his mind in the domain desert.

On a serious level.

This site could get to page 1 position 1 of google for UK searches. It gets over 20,000 searches per month.

If only 1% of people who visit the site upload a CV free of charge, within 12-18 months we could begin to create a significant pool of stock.

From that point, with my recruitment experience, we can use this pool of CV's to match to job specifications.

2 deals... and we make £x,xxx.

The only costs.. are the web development and the CMS. That can be done for relatively peanuts.

I am always open for criticism (see the other posts and you will see I take criticism very well).. but on this case, I really do think you are incorrect my friend.

What site, you don't even own the domain yet and there's no site on it?? There's a whole lot of coulds and ifs in what you're saying, none of them add any value whatsoever to the domain as it stands at this moment!

Lol ok guys, let us all agree that I am a fool that has no idea what he's doing and is an ignorant buffoon for not listening.

Sadly... there are times in life you have to just go with your gut instinct. My gut instinct states 22,000 searches, recruitment experience, = £x

Doesnt cost me much to try.

I apologise to all the people here that think im a total fool - I probably am - but we all learn and are made stronger by our mistakes.

P.S - Sean, your comment made me smile... I AM a dreamer :p But, I'm also one that tries to make the dreams happen rather than just looking up the sky and thinking ooo I wish. :)

You are asking for a domain appraisal remember, not a 'potential future value' based on an idea you haven't even brought to fruition yet. The value of the domain in its current state remains the same regardless of whatever idea you have for it. It's only worth what the next person is willing to pay for it.

If you think you can make thousands out of it, do it and then sell it on as a business for a revenue multiple. Don't forget to take into account though the costs of developing it and promoting it (not only monetary costs, but factor in your time in 'man hours' as a cost too).

Edit: It gets 5,400 searches per month, not 20,000. How many of those will even be looking for quantity surveyer jobs? And of those that are, how many will want to use your website to upload their CV or apply for jobs? You may want to calculate your figures.

Sad Snail :( You ARE correct that I asked for a valuation.

I did however once given the valuation of £x,xxx state that therefore I doubt my client would want to sell this and instead we'd be considering thoughts/opportunities with the domain.

Mr Snail is very sad now, because your all picking on him, and he's going to go and hide away in his little matchbox :p

(Seriously... I do appreciate the comments, I understand that effectively the domain itself, is not worth what I thought, and that the only way to increase the value of the domain is to turn it into a viable business that will take time effort and money. - Im willing to give it a bash).

This is easy, pretend you are a successful quantity surveyor, you get 3% for your money in a bank. You will one day, in the distant future want to sell your business and retire.

Valuation : £7,500 to the right end user, possibly more if there was competition, which there should be.
These types of names above all else are immediate status symbols aswell as earners aswell as long term assets to the business.

In some industries one customer can bring in enormous chunks of revenue, some things just give the company the edge. Hang on until the penny drops.
