Any idea why Nominet are not letting Chris's domains drop? Is there something going on in the background we haven't heard about?

hasnt this been a recurring theme/discussion for a while now?

Must have missed that if it was, i'd checked for other postings first. We understand about the Matt holdbacks obviously, but that doesn't apply here. Wondering if Nominet can't let them drop for a reason.

oooo i think i might be getting this crossed with tagnames domains??

maybe ignore me today lol...

One of tagnames dropped this week, so they do drop sometimes.

I spoke to them, they very rarely let domains drop but they do allow them to be suspended to stimulate enquiries.

If you're on about Chris, then that's not it, loads are well past drop date. Nominet won't hold drops on that basis, that's for sure!

I am sure they have some kind of arrangement, why not email him? I said 'them' as he referred to his domains / portfolio using 'we' so presumably its more than just Chris ;)

Edit: Btw my contact with him was 4 days ago.

Marines.co.uk is a good example of this :) Should have expired on the 27th, however don't "Tags" get a few days more?

Looking it up, it looks like they get 97 days?

These are a lot older than that (due drop dates stated):

evaluations .co.uk - 16 June 2010
calmly .co.uk - 17 June 2010
arrogance .co.uk - 5 August 2010
accepting .co.uk - 11 September 2010
vapor .co.uk - 13 September 2010
anesthesiologist .co.uk - 15 September 2010

Is it not something to do with the amount of credit that you are allowed by Nominet? If the invoice for renewals is over the credit limit, then they will not charge you for those additional domains over the limit and the drop cycle restarts.

Say the limit was £500 per month and each domain renewal was £5. Nominet would renew the first 100, then any domains over 100 will not drop and drop cycle starts again until such time as the balance is paid. They'll pay their invoices every x days which will renew any of these domains that have avoided the drop.

It looks like Nominet is give these large companies more time, but it is only because they are holding large volumes of domains.

At least I think that's the reason .... or something similar, but I am willing to be corrected!

It would be extremely handy if Nominet removed the suspended flag from these sorts of domains, or even handier if the TAG holder actually paid his bill on time :)

Different rules for different members? That's not on, I had to apply for a bigger credit limit when I hit the initial £500 credit limit.

Emailed him, not going to disclose what was said, but they are meant to be like that, its not a 'bug' or anything.

I was thinking the other day, you could catch a few dropcatchers unaware by tactically letting domains go like this, wasting their quota etc.
