Hi Everyone,

I just wanted to introduce myself properly. I am a Digital Marketing and SEO specialist. I have been on this forum for many years but have recently become far more active within the domain industry. Many of you know me already. I have been to T.R.A.F.F.I.C amongst other things so I am far from “new” to this, but as far as I recall I never actually did the introduction on the Acorn forum. Am currently selling approx 1400 domains, 200 are mine and I act as an agent for the rest of them – many are aged, dating back to 1999.

I also buy domains and have some of them developed into SEO friendly sites etc. As a Digital Marketing specialist with extensive experience I now plan to utilise my expertise and contacts to try to help take generic domain acquisition a bit more mainstream over the coming months / yrs – i.e. to the marketing departments. I also hope to have a few interesting debates on Acorn.

In keeping with tradition – The worst domain is probably video-shops.co.uk as they no longer really exist!
The best domain is a matter of opinion but to the right buyer insurancefirms.com (&co.uk), mediabuying.co.uk, travelandtourism.co.uk, recruitmentcompanies.com (&co.uk), and concert-bookings.com (&co.uk) are some that could command high prices.

Thanks for reading the introduction :)

Welcome Emma? (from whois of your domain)

Any reason why some of your best domains are not developed? They may do much better developed than selling them?

Cheers
Gary

Seems a bit strange saying 'Welcome' to someone who was here 3 years before me. so it is just a hello.

I imagine we have all got one or two domains that time seems to have past by. ;) Where do the years go ?

Hi – that is a good question as I totally agree with you in the fact that the domains would do well if developed! I am a big advocate of domain development. The answer is quite complex but in short it has been down to time and resource.

With the names that I now act as agent for – in the past the focus was on developing extremely large, high traffic, high revenue generating sites on just a few domains and that was what consumed the time. With my own names – I am in the process of developing a few but the bottom line is that it is literally only in the past couple of months that I have turned my main attention to the domain side of things. This is why I am hoping to be able to make some sort of impact via Twitter (@elmdigital) and other mechanisms in bringing the marketing world closer to the domain industry as much of my time over the past 14 years has been heavily involved in digital marketing / publishing, and I think that if a few gaps could be bridged then the domain market could be opened up to a lot more end users who are ultimately the people that will pay the high prices.

I fully understand that developed sites are what makes a good domain into a great domain but it is developing sites into medium/ large sized properties where I think the money is. My mission I guess is not to do this myself but to use my background to convince marketing departments that this is what they should be doing.

I also think "age" of domains plays a very big part in future development so if I manage to sell a few aged domains along the way to domainers that see this value too then that will be a good thing for me also.

Hope that makes sense :)
