I guess being a comparable industry, does anyone here also dabble in private registrations (the type you put on your vehicle)? Any successes?

Also, if anyone has a NN-LL, LL-NN, NNN-LL or LLL-NN plate on retention that they may consider selling, drop me a message.

Thanks, that would be great.

I own them all just like domains

8 K offer £100K from me

I think you just put a hole in Ian's plan with that one.

I own a few mostly around my name or family name. Like my surname (same as my tag MORLEY) so I bought MO12LEY but have some other EXACT names too.

I keep saying I'll buy more, the DVLA auctions are brutal. For example my surname, the hammer dropped at 4k, then adding premiums, auction fee's and VAT, travelling and hotel stays it ended up over well over 6k. Similar story on other occasions too.

The "dealers" run almost everything worth a damn up to high xxx low x,xxx, so it would rapidly start to hurt.

A small number but I got bored of them. I have a few on retention including D/A/V 2/D (I'm wondering what'll happen to D/A/V 1/D after its owner was killed; they might look nice together as a pair), F/A/5/7 B/O/Y which I had on two different Porsches (Google is your friend) although nothing as budget as a Cayman ;) and that plate often turned heads and J/U/C 3/Y which I purchased at the same time as D/A/V 2/D and have never put on a car either.

I have 7/9 D/T but I'm not selling that at the moment. :)

haha, nothing budget about my Cayman. What Porsches did you have? If they were classics they are certainly worth more than domains ever would be at the moment. Sell me J/U/C 3/Y ;)

@ian-d : if you send me a contact number for yourself I will pass the number onto him so you both can discuss

Your mailbox is full Kari, can you clear some space or drop me a message.

Did you miss his invitation to Google his oh so tasteful number plate, and so discover the Porsches he used it on? I'll save you the bother; apparently a black Cayenne Turbo and yellow 911 Turbo Cabrio. I'd take your budget GT4 myself, but there's no accounting for taste.

I took it to email rather than carrying it on here. I'm sure he'll enjoy his "hairdressers car" when it comes! ;-) :)

The cars were great but were things I did in my late 20s and early 30s. Unfortunately owning them doesn't give one any better roads or any ability to jump traffic jams which seem to be everywhere. It becomes dull. These days I'm genuinely happier either on trains or being driven, although I occasionally drive, allowing me to get on and do other things or to watch a movie rather than staring at other drivers; although happy I had the cars at the time in my life I did. I don't miss negotiating tiny roads jam packed with with people coming home from work especially if I've not long been up!

Hehe, everyone different, but as David said, he likes to be driven around (oo-er), so I doubt a car so well positions to be the current "best car in the world" would suit his personal tastes. Back to plates...

Sometimes I love not being in uk - I have ROB on my number plate - cost? 35 euros.

Can't imagine any car you might own has done much mileage. Have you driven every road over there?

I've always wondered what the big deal is about private number plates and how much they sell for. Compared to a domain name, they are just for vanity, whereas a domain name, you can build an online business from it.
