Dan Commission Update

I did a quick test loading a "Lead" instead of "Transaction"

This is where it gets a bit dodgy in terms of user experience.
Once you click "Add new lead" the form just disappears, no confirmation no nothing. Could leave you wondering if it went through or not...
The buyer then receives an email asking them to confirm that they made an offer.

Once they confirm they made this offer, they are redirected to Dan's home page which is also very confusing.
But they soon receive another email confirming they've just placed an offer.
From here on it behaves the same as if the buyer placed a bid directly on Dan's landing page.

You as seller receive an identical email as if the buyer made an offer through Dan directly.

The transaction page is the same and you have the option to Accept, Reject or make a counter offer

So from this it looks like the workflow I was suggesting is correct.
The only thing that I would say is open to some interpretation is this requirement:
The lead import tool we provide is only to be used when you have a firm agreement with the buyer, and they have agreed to purchase the domain name when you contacted them outside of our platform.
It's therefore essential that an unambiguous wording is used on your form (i.e. "You are making a legally binding offer of...") and maybe even add some terms and conditions.
IANAL so maybe someone with more legal experience could suggest the best format for this.
But the important thing is that the workflow is feasible.

Might actually move from Dan to SEDO 'buy it now or best offer' for 10% commission, if the landing pages are OK

Anyone know if this includes the VAT and Paypal Fee ?

Like with DAN it was 9% including both the VAT and Paypal fee. i.e. £910 received to Paypal on a £1000 sale

Not used them for a long time but I am sure they used to take %age of the total amount. So if you are VAT registered you would be paying comm on the VAT portion.

I'm sticking with Dan and have integrated my domains to show on Afternic, GoDaddy and the rest of their network.

I did notice tonight that my names aren't showing up on Afternic or GoDaddy, they were previously, but all I get now when doing a search for any of my domains on Afternic, is this:

"Sorry, no match found"

Same on GoDaddy, searching for pens.uk as an example gives this search result:

"pens.uk is taken
We still might be able to get it for you. See How
Broker Service Fee
€60.99"

Is anyone else who integrated seeing their domains missing?

I've just messaged Dan support.

We're sticking with dan for now - but I agree the integration with godaddy/afternic is a mess. We did try the integration but all our domains which are priced in GBP were shown in dollars - so a £5000 domain appeared as $5000 so we removed the integration. I also noticed that .uk domains aren't featuring on godaddy. I can see pens.life is the top domain they are offering - that's not a lot of good for uk domainers when you hold a premium domain like pens.uk. Also the whois information on godaddy is giving incorrect information for a lot of uk domains i.e. type in carinsurance and it will show car-insurance.co.uk as available to reg when it clearly isn't. So it is a complete mess.

They also show .UK domains as having restrictions:

"Restrictions set by the registry include:

Administrative contact country and postal code must be part of the UK

Some .uk names are reserved for owners of matching .co.uk, .org.uk and .me.uk domains. This restriction ends by July 8, 2019.

As part of the purchase / checkout process, you will have an option to pre-register the domain if it is identified as being part of the reserved list. If you choose to pre-register, the domain will be queued up for registration between July 1-5 2019, based on when it is made available to the general public"

Thanks for the info. I've posted all info on main .com forum and linked to dan and godaddy staff members who regularly frequent there, and hopefully we can try to get the situation for uk domainers improved.

Dan have replied and said they're looking in to it, I also asked them to pass on to GoDaddy about the restrictions for registering .UK's, told them that's incorrect and could be causing people to lose out on sales if a foreign buyer thinks they need a UK address.

@Nigel, yes, the Afternic integration being in Dollars is a pain.

If you tick the box next to the domain/s in the Dan control panel, then click on settings, then "Distribute", you can untick the "inherit buy it now price" and manually enter a dollar price, or click the calculator icon and set a % increase to cover £ to $ conversion.

I add 20% to cover the conversion rate.

The other thing I have noticed is that they do not port over make an offer settings, so the names only show as buy now.

Thanks for that info sysreg and pedigree. I can't see "Distribute" - does that appear after you agree to integration? 20% sounds about right - can you add that percentage across your whole portfolio?

@Nigel, yes, I think you'll have to opt back in to integrations for that option to show.

I checked and it does allow to add whatever % you choose across all domains listed, by ticking the select all domains box.

I'm not sure that's the case if you then add new domains on a daily basis, I set the pricing/% on each new name added to Dan individually.

I haven't found away to do that, I've just added the 20% manually.

The stupid thing is GoDaddy then convert the price back to GBP anyway.

I was going to message dan.com to see if it was possible to set a standard percentage minimum offer PRICE across the portfolio (i.e. 50% of the BIN price), as this would be useful and is a feature SEDO offer.

@Pedigree, yes, you can set minimum price across your whole portfolio.

Tick the select all domains box, click settings, click pricing, scroll down to minimum price and enter it in the box or use the calculator icon to set a %, then save.

(Edit)

That only applies to prices on Dan, all domains on Afternic will still show at BIN prices only, and on GoDaddy, all domains listed have a reserve which is automatically set at 65% of the BIN price.

Thanks, I hadn't noticed this. The calculation seems to be based on the figure already in the minimum offer box rather than the current BIN price, unless I am missing something.

I will try with a new name when I add some more later today to see if it works.

Cheers!

@Pedigree, hadn't noticed it went off the figure already in the box, I don't set minimum offers so I hadn't seen that.

Maybe try this, go to Settings, Account Settings, scroll down to Portfolio (default starting offer £99) and change the minimum offer amount there, that will then show across your portfolio and then you can add a % to that using the Settings/Pricing/minimum offer way above.

Dan have now fixed a bug and all of my domains are showing on Afternic and GoDaddy again.

I also asked Dan to pass on my feedback regarding the GoDaddy search results, which shows that UK domains have restrictions, which states that you need a UK administrative address and postcode.

Also mentioned again about .uk domains not showing in GoDaddy search results, and was asked for example screenshots of both of those issues, which I've provided to Dan.

you'd expect 123-Reg to show .uk domains prominently. If you search 'pens' your domain shows nowhere - it shows 37 domains but not the .uk. If you type 'pens.uk' then it does appear as a premium domain. Funny when you remember that 123-Reg were one of the large registrars that pushed for introduction of .uk!
