I’ve recently noticed, since around the 20th of October, certain sites are losing visitors. Google Analytics dashboard reveals that traffic is decreasing steadily for about a week. This is happening in more than one site.

What’s wrong people? Can someone explain? Besides Panda and the usual stuff about contents, etc. has something new turned up? Like some new parameter being introduced in ranking? Or something else?

Some reasons can be mentioned which can be of help. The first thing is that maybe your competitors and colleagues have been doing better than you in terms of promoting their sites online and building stronger links which naturally would result in getting finer ranks in the course of time. Google updates happen all the time, even the unannounced ones which may involve doing minor and very slight changes to the algorithm systems. Another point is about popularity trends concerning the keywords targeted.

This may happen all the time and in some cases, even when your website reaches the first page on Google for a keyword, you may not seem very happy with the results due to this fact that the selected keyword may now not be very popular online compared with several months and years ago. Perhaps one of the solutions to cope with such a problem is to choose several keywords, because even the secondary ones may get hot in the future and leading to improved traffic shares and better ranks.

There was another google algorithm update recently, which may account for the decline.

Even the similar kind of problem I have been noticed with Alexa as well. “Sites Linking In” option in Alexa improved enormously for my website, but traffic stats going down … Could anyone elaborate the reason behind this?

In my opinion the only way to get good traffic is social media, it is very fast and effective way to get good traffic from your favorite country, but for it you have to spend much time on social media sites.

Plenty of sites got hit again this week, fresh unique content and time are the secret. Sites will go up and down but ultimately (hopefully) the cream will rise to the top.

Best of luck

Aiden

I have also noticed that the rankings are decreased but the reason is the new Google panda version that has changed all the SEO world. Google has made some changes in its algorithms and due to the result after implementation about 35% of the web sites has lost their rankings.

If it's panda related, you'll usually see a pretty sharp drop off in traffic unless you didn't have a lot to begin with and have only been impacted by a small number of ranking drops. There have been various iterations throughout October as outlined here - http://searchengineland.com/taking-a-closer-look-at-the-googles-panda-2-5-flux-97603

While the date doesn't match exactly with the 20th, updates usually hit the UK a short while after they appear in the US.

Of course, there are many other factors, perhaps a link penalty, or even a drop from page one to two for a key term. Use the date comparison function in Analytics and use a segment to remove brand terms if applicable.

Check for duplicate content, by copying blocks of text from your homepage and pasting those phrases, sentances into Google.

When the results are returned do you see anyone stealing your content?

Also are you building deep links to sub pages or just linking to your homepage?
