For those who make regular adsense revenue do any of you actively choose do specifically display text links or image ads - and do you notice a better CTR using one rather than another?

text for me all day long.

Same as above above, text for me all day and all night long

I would definitely say text most of the time. It probably depends on the nature of the site though in some cases. If the site is more visual in nature (videos, pics), the maybe image ads.

Text ads seem to be more targeted to whatever your site is about.
I had image running for a few days on a site with a good ctr, All i got was adverts for divan beds, and a load of other highly un-related product adverts :(

And no the site was not about divan beds, or any type of beds!!

I'd say text ads is usually better for CTR, but it's a pity to limit yourself.
There might be advertisers willing to pay a decent amount for an image ad on your site..

Some niche areas got very attractive image ads.

Text does not instantly look like an ad, images do therefore it's instantly ignored.

Actually I've been finding a little better results with image ads than text at the moment....

...true about the non relating ads sometimes. Not enough businesses adding an image version of their ad, so the companies you perhaps want to display, or more relevant to your target audience, are not displaying for that reason.

Research continues....

Is anyone willing to say what CTRs they get for text or image ads...

We average 0.6% for text ads

I think that may depend on the site itself, for example I have one site with lots of content and a click-thru rate of around 2%, whereas I have other small "adsense" sites with a 40% CTR. I always use text ads personally.

those seem like behavioural ads - if you are on the new adsense platform, use this link to pick and choose whether to allow that or not
https://www.google.com/adsense/v3/app#allowAndBlockAdsAdvancedSettings

Text ads all the way, most people are blind to image ads nowadays. They may notice the image ad but it's unlikely they will click on it.

I usually go for text ads, but since allowing image ads will get more advertisers competing for your ad space, maybe it would increase earnings a bit? Might be that the increased earnings would be eaten by the probable lower ctr though.

I allow text_image on most sites and let google decide, but some sites just get a better CTR with image only or text only.
I never use the new google ad slot code. I still use my old code that allows me to manipulate the code directly in the html, I hate the ad slot code, too much hassle when tweaking per site.

Best thing is to test on your own site - run text ads for a week (if that's long enough for a fair test) and then image ads and then compare.
One of my sites deffo does better with image ads (much to my suprise)
