A domain i'm interested (co uk) in has expired but not yet dropped.
It's value is low (less than a dropcatch fee).
I was hoping to wait till it dropped and to try to register it (was assuming that no one would be particularly interested). However just checked on daily.co.uk and they already have it on backorder for when it drops.
So - the simple question is - if I approach the current owner and they agree to sell it to me, do they have to pay the renewal then transfer it, or can they transfer it without renewing and then i have to renew?

You can do either, if the drop was imminent, it may be best to get them to renew it before transfer and pay them the renewal fee on top of the sale price.
