Collab Site Build For YOUR Charity [All Skill Sets Welcome]

The collab post has sparked an idea I had before. I’m a simple person, so it’s not that complicated…

Create a site. We come together and build it out. Site earns £. Donate said £.

For now, I just want people to register their interest. So, don’t take any of this as set in stone.

We’ll go on these assumptions (which we can easily change):

• Anyone involved gets an equal split, which they donate to the charity of their choice
• Take part as much or as little as you want - any help, is help!
• I assume start up costs would be zero, but if there are bits we need, I can fund those within reason (tools etc)
• I can host
• We can figure out a secure way for the site to be controlled by someone (i.e. I understand a lot of people have no idea who I am).
• Can setup channels on Slack (or similar) for “ideas”, “jobs done”, and a general board

Help Welcomed

For assumptions sake, let’s say we build a site focusing on “best” this and that products (outdoors maybe). You can help…

• Link from your site (pretty effortless)
• Run a link campaign (and use it as a case study)
• Write pages (and use it in your portfolio if you want)
• Help with Design
• Advise on tech SEO
• Push a good piece of content on social via ads (funded)
• Inform your contacts, and ask for any of the above
• Anything basically….
Something as simple as linking (30 seconds and free) is a contribution, and extremely helpful. Help as much or as little as you want…it soon adds up.

What I’ll Do

More than happy to oversee everything. Obviously can’t commit timewise daily, but whatever it is, will get done. Across the week, I can budget 1 day ongoing to cover everything, on the basis we’d aim for £5k/mo and beyond.
Reply to channels, edit content, help out with outreach on link campaigns, find help we need, distribute funds to chosen charities and more…

That’s it!

I don't get the charity angel?

Are you not confident in the idea to propose it as a business?

 

What's wrong with doing bits for charity? I think giving back is important. Pay it forward and all that. On Fridays, when I'm in the vicinity of Costa (drive-thru), I'll head there. When coming to the window to pay for my order, I like to pay for my order and the persons behind me, irrespective of cost. I figure that's me doing my bit for the day.

Well if you don't donate to a cause you believe in. Then you won't get it.

And I'm not an Angel (your typo). My angle is to build a site that makes money for charity, more than I can donate. No business proposal or anything, so not sure what you're on about to be honest

 

Chaps & Chappets - buying someone random a coffee is not charity.

Business is also not a charity.

What you choose to do with your time or money to help others due to your own beliefs in private is charity.

The idea is good - there is a lack of business acumin which is why it feels you have pinned this charity angle on.

I cannot give a better example of a non-profit with a charity angle that is completely self serving - ever heard of nominet?

 

I'm always open to constructive criticism if you have the time to offer your expertise? Not quite sure what you're on about in regards to pinning the charity angle due to lack of business acumen to be honest?

On a more positive note. Thanks for the couple of responses I've had. As I said. Any help, even 30 mins here and there, is greatly appreciated.

 

Behave yourself, mate. The idea is to give back. Whether that be a random person a coffee or donating money regularly to various charities, both of which I do. As long as this sort of stuff exists, the world is a better place.

Every act of kindness like this is charitable, most people are not that happy, getting told the coffee was paid for by someone you have never met in front would make someones day, it may also make that person a charitable person too.

I've always been charitable, but one day a guy who gave me 10p opened my eyes. Not that long a story so I will tell it as no other threads to post in now

Left home at 2am to deliver a car to Ongar, hadn't been there before but saw a station a mile away or so thought it would be easy to get back home easy and had a lift to bus stop so all good. Traffic all the way, arrived at 11am, 9 hrs for 4 hr max journey, was a nightmare.

Anyway,turns out the train station was a summer thingy and needed to get to epping via the bus.

So stood at bus stop for an hour and then people started turning up, first man was a lovely old guy stood at the front, then 6 or 7 others behind him.

Bus arrived and he let everyone else on before him even though it must always be a bit busy on the small bus, insisted i went before him, turned out that they never accepted cards on the bus, and fare was £2.30 and i had exactly £2.20, bus driver was happy for me to get off as I didn't have enough, fair enough, not something i would do to a non local, but i got it.

Old guy asked me how short I was, and i said oh its ok being a bit embarrassed but thank you, he said again and stepped on the bus turning back, so bus couldn't move, 10 pence I said, didn't realise about cards etc and no train. He gave me the 10p and I paid the man, and we both stood up as no seats.

He had made my day, i was so hungry and needed the loo I could have cried, but with traffic I didn't want to be late as customer was expecting is car at 8am.

The thing that stayed with me and made me a better person was, when the bus pulled off, he handed me a five pound note, i said oh no its ok, and he said it was incase I needed to get a bus back. That extra act of kindness/charity he offered was so thoughtful it made me realise that its wonderful to go above and beyond, he wasn't going to facebook it or tweet it, kindness for kindness sake, you cant beat it.

Other thing that has stayed with me is, i was very smartly dressed, shirt and tie, yet he didn't think oh he's ok, he just acted on kindness.

@Grant Probably I do not have the time to be part of it in a long term but to give a little boost to your idea I can give away 5 free hours of my time in next one month if you need help with branding/UX/UI/product design.

Exactly. 10p is worth very little when taken at monetary value, but little things can make a big difference. Which is why any help anyone can offer is valuable. It might be 30 minutes as a one off, but depending what it is, it could be something that could take me a week, or would never get done.

 

Don't expect anyone to commit. I'll setup some kind of group or something, and people are welcome to drop in and out whenever they like. 30 mins here and there is fine.

Just wanted to thank the few people that offered their time or knowledge. No commitments are needed. If you can offer up help/knowledge, your 10 mins (if it's web designing for instance), is a day's work for me.

Plenty of ideas/things that need ironing out, but after work each day, will plod along, and will get there
