I've been ignoring a regular call from a USA phone number for months, having found that it was 1&1 marketing department on a search. Feeling a bit mellow this afternoon with not a lot on so I decided to answer the call (figured it was the only way to stop them).

A very pleasant chap from the US started on his sales script, enquired into how our day was and our business etc. When asked politely to get to the point he asked if we had heard of Google Adwords. He decided to ignore the fact we had been using it for 8 years and press on. The great advantage he could offer us was the fact that, and I quote, "1&1 BUY KEYWORDS IN BULK TO ALLOW THEM TO RESELL THEM AT LOW PRICES".

WTF!! Mellow disappeared at that point so I pointed out this was BS, at first he claimed to be able to show me the page on their website that shows 1&1 is a Google Adwords reseller, which he stated proved his point. It all degenerated from there to the point I asked to be put through to the writer of his sales script so that I could point out where the bullshit became too obvious. Jesus.

I don't think I've ever seen a positive 1&1 thread here, and there are plenty to choose from.

Obviously a company to avoid.

I once was told by a sales rep of Yell.com that if the firm I was working for ended it's Yell.com listing that our website would drop out of Google.

She ended up storming out after I called her a lier!

Ironically mate she might have been taught the right thing by her sales boss and she hasn't got a clue about the internet, probably just not understood the difference between dropping out and dropping down Google. Even then though she can't possibly say for certain people will drop out or down in Google.

A site I have has only 5 links (all from yell, paid for by the previous site owner I imagine.) and ranks top for the competitive keyword. In my opinion Google does like the Yell links.

Dropping out though is clearly absurd and she will probably catch a few with it.
