I processed and paid for 2 Uk domain renewals yesterday through 123-Reg.

I got the invoices by email within minutes but just checked again and they haven't renewed them.

Whatever registrar you use, always check they actually do what you have paid for!

I hate to say this bud, sooner or later you was due a burning from 123-Reg, take the op and jump ship :)

I check and re check with 123 reg I have found them very hit and miss over the last year or so. On one occasion I registered 40 domains with them after a number of hours still nothing showing at nominet so registered them with telivo and they showed up straight away with nominet and had hours of fun getting refund from 123 :-o

I've not had to renew a .co.uk yet but have a few coming up this year. How much is the renewal fee via a registrar. I'm with 123 by the way :(

Despite what a few others seem to say, I have had no problems with 123-reg. All my .uk domains are with them. Only thing that annoys me with renewals is that you can't pay with paypal.

Hi Ben, I didn't know that, all mine are with 123 as well, so how do you renew a domain with them? Don't understand that at all, you pay for them with PayPal but can't renew with it

I know, it's mad. You can register them with paypal but you have to renew via card.

Bloody ridiculous

Anyone know a good UK registrar where I can transfer my 123 domains to them for free, and that has renewals by Paypal?

Hi,

I renewed 2 .es domains with 123-reg useless service and I paid with paypal. This worked fine as far as payment goes, account debited and invoice issued.

However, the nameservers were also reset so now my client's site has been down for a week, I have sent 10 support requests and spoken to the support people who have told me that they have set the nameservers.

Site still down, email not working, client furious.

Don't use 123-reg under any circumstances!

Does anyone know a reliable host that supports .es domains?

regards

You can change your own nameservers using 123-reg control panel for .uk and .com/net/org

Can you not do the same for .es?

Earlier this year I renewed some domains held at 123-reg and they created two invoices for the one transaction and charged my card twice. Keep an eye on them.

Sadly no, when I log in for the domain I get:

Warning - Only use this page if you are familiar with DNS. If you are unsure please seek advice. An error may result in you losing email, or your website being down whilst propagation takes place.
Warning - If you have an @ record set to a CNAME, all other @ records (including MX) will be ignored and set to the same domain to which it points.

Domain xxxxx.es is not on our nameservers.

and so I searched the knowledgebase only to find:

Transfer In/Out of ccTLD (Country Code Top Level Domains) .cn, .be, .at, .es & .me
These domain names can not currently be transferred into or away from 123-Reg. We are currently developing the systems to enable this functionality.

So I am stuck with them... I did read somewhere though that an ISP cannot force you (hold you to ransom) to stay with them, I would like to know the procedure to transfer away from 123-reg before I start losing clients altogether.

If you just need to change the nameserver name, when you login to 123-reg, you see your domains in a drop down list, choose the domain name and click modify domain, that takes you to a page with these options below, you are looking at the one in bold text, use the one in red:

Manage My Blog
Access my InstantSite Account
Manage DNS
Web Forwarding
E-mail forwarding
Change Nameservers
Change IPS Tag
Modify Contact Details
WHOIS Opt out
Transfer Domain to another 123-reg user
Display or Print an Invoice

Just add the nameserver name to the boxes on that page and wait for the DNS to update.

hi thanks for the help,

this is what I did first thing on Monday, then after 24 hours it still wasn't working so I checked the dns to make sure that the domain records were still correct, pointing to my server's IP (which they are) and thats when I get the error saying that the domain was not the 123-reg nameservers so I opened the ticket.

After getting no response I repeated the procedure on Wednesday and finally when I spoke to the guy at 123-support on Friday he confirmed that it cannot be done via the control panel for a .es, it has to be done via support/their tech team. He said he had done it but the domain is still unavailable.

thanks tho, if you have any other info that may be useful I am really stuck...

I have used 123-reg for nearly all my domains and have not had any problems except from the .me domain it let you buy then you find out they are goverment owned or due for auction. This is really annoying but they refunded me straight away each time.

Apart from this I have not had any problems but in saying that I have only about 60 domains where as I guess some of you others have hundreds to keep an eye on.

123-reg good for me so far :D

Regards Gav

I am stumped, does anyone else have a .es registered with 123-reg and if so how did you renew it?

I appreciate that other tlds, .co.uk and .com domains may work fine but this is the first of several .es domains I have with 123-reg that has come up for renewal and I am worried about the others, will all the sites be down for a week when I renew the domain?

This is one week later and I have still had no reply in the 'new support system', not even an acknowledgement. :(

Hi,

Just to let you know I got it sorted.

Spoke to someone at support again who told me that .es names are 'actually' registered through Tucows not 123-reg apparently. After a discussion about being reported to Trading Standards and getting solicitors involved (I took legal advice in the end as my client was threatening the same) he promised to have it sorted with 24 hours. This morning, within 24 hours, the domain is working again.

Just a bad experience/total nightmare. I have a few other .es domains at 123-reg, I know what I have to do now before they need to be renewed...

have been using 123reg for a few years now and haven't had any bad experience yet (that's the kiss of death). Which other registrars, have a control panel that's as easy to use.
