I have been offered some advertising space on the back of a Licensed London Black Cab official receipts - which of course, if you are not a tourist, you keep and claim back on.

For 1000 receipts - with enough room on the back for a few lines of text inclucing a URL.

How much would you pay for this, for a site that is London based?

Not sure buddy, but the businesses that used to benefit from it most were fast food outlets such as McDonalds.

You've probably got to be look at least 10p - 15p per ticket I'd have thought.

I don't think you'll get more than a couple of clicks from them.

I see more and more of these lorry trailers in fields with ads on which I believe are a great thing for advertising. There's loads in essex and they obviously work as I can recall the website addresses of my local ones on the A12 and A127. Equates to loads of traffic (pardon the pun)

I wonder how much the farmer wants to stick one in his field? I could alternate website each month.

There are 2 problems with receipt advertising:

1. It's usually on the back of the receipt so most people don't see it.
2. It's given to you when you are on the verge of moving on (leaving the cab or the shop) so you end up pushing it in your wallet or pocket.

There's also the added thing that as the receipts in taxis are in pads, books might be used for something else by the driver or for whatever reason never make it to the customers hands.

Sorry to be so negative - I just think that depending on your website you will probably be better with PPC or CPM banners etc.

If you could make the taxi drivers give the receipt to the passenger upside down and say your website's catchphrase each time, then that would be better ;)

*update*

10000 receipts purchased

Approx 2000 given out.

Approx (over 3 days) 400 extra UVs and 165 Amazon sales

:-D - Chuffed to bits!

Great News!

Out of interest how much did you pay for receipts?

Can you see it being a worthwhile investment? (What % of the cost has been covered by your 165 amazon sales)

Good news mate, thanks for sharing results...

Wow that is great news. That's 1 in 5 who got the receipt visited your site, and 1 in 12 made a purchase! Could those figures be from other advertising as well or just natural increase - either way that is impressive would be interesting to know the ROI

Good luck for the other 8000 receipts

Impressive stats.

What was the hook to get such a great response, and what site did you send them to?

Well done and thanks for sharing.

I went for a colour advert with Logo and people were sent to a TM website of mine with Amazon links.

Things have tailed off slightly but still an improvement and its something that I will look to continue. I also cant be 100% certain that the purchases came from the site but UVs are def up on a month-by-month basis but again this could be the busy Xmas period.

Off course, it helps having 3 family members plying their trade as 'Cabbies' in the smoke. It was they that put me on to it as they say that a Cab driver will do anything to get some free receipt pads.

Are there any other forms of advertising that people are using?

I looked up the cost of having an ad in a field off the A127 and it's from £195 per week min 3 months! for a 10' x 20' ad.
