Just want to check peopl's thoughts on .cc domains? Is there any value in these?

Just asking because there are a lot of generics availabe with the .cc prefix

Read your own post and ask yourself why there are so many generic names available?

yes but presumably .net, .info, .org has the same issues early doors but now tend to have most of the generics of these snapped up. Is there a chance the same could happen with .cc

At £30 a year I would honestly say forget it as being honest your a newbie, and you dont want to be paying out £30 for the nexy 10 years waiting for them to happen.

Remember that co.uk and dot coms are still the top extensions and very few but there are .org org.uk in search engines.

Goto any search engine and think of the generic your looking at, type it in and variations of that name and see what you see.

I'm not a domain seller, but sales and ideas but I bet a lot of the hard core domain sellers wont be buying .cc domain names for a long while unless they are the usual

casino, sex or very similar top names.

Even then they might spend £30 a year or £1,000 over time without bothering about it until cc domains, if they do mean something in the search engines in the end become popular.

THEN they will make that £1,000 but I honestly dont think you have a £1,000 or the experience to buy and sit on domain names.

for example Mark you have mentioned you have a number of catalogue domains - does that mean you would see no value in catalogue.cc if every other major prefix was gone (incidetally its already taken)

I have www.catalouge.co.uk a few other miss spellings of it and a few proper spellings of it with combinations such as fashion etc.

They make pretty good money especially the catalouge.

Would I honestly purchase a domain for £30 such as catalogue honestly no.

I purchased catalouge as a late night typo thinking it was catalogue and it was my second typo I'm glad I got it as I make god knows how much from it now.

At the moment the catalogue business is closing down slowly as most are owned by the same companies so they are closing down a lot of brand names and concentrating upon one brand name.

At the moment I give one catalogue a shed load of traffic for free but before they closed there advertising I was getting paid for it.

As soon as I get my arse in gear then I will change this and redirect thier sales to someone I do get paid for.

I like to make money straight away from domains e.g make them work not sale, if they dont work for me then in the past I have let them drop without thinking about it.

I stand by saying that you will be a fool if you spend £30 a year on a domain just yet especially with .cc or anything else that comes out.

There are ok so I'm wrong or there were a few domain names that were casino and sex with new extenstions but they are now taken, but they were either £30 or £90 a year.

Your panicing about a org.uk at the moment so I honestly do not think that you can really afford to take the risk of high level domain price.

I maybe wrong but only you know your finances.

Just because some of these lot make money, doesnt mean that you can, we all want that pot of gold that will make us millions.

At the moment, I would say the .cc hasn't got much value and generally and the names, if they sell, go for a small fraction of the value of their .com/.co.uk counterparts.

You would need a superb, generic and quite outstanding name for it to be worth it and don't expect a huge return even then. I have about three .cc domains in total - all generic, one in particular (finance related) does very well on uniques each month, but no interest from an end buyer.

So, if you're not bothered and would like to take a calculated risk and punt on it, go for it I'd say, you've only got a reg. fee to lose - but tread carefully and lead with your head, not your heart!

Interesting to note that Speculator.cc has a parking page on it now (as mentioned on DM in 2006). Article on DomainRookie.com also of interest?

I am a newbie but have followed the make a £1 a day thread in the affiliated marketing section with interest. So my question was consiering it from that angle rather than the resale route anyway.

Thought it might be better to get a couple of good generic names in the .cc prefix rather than say in .me.uk - in fact there are a couple I have seen where everything is gone except for the .cc

For £30 thought it was worth a punt to see if I can make it wash its face

Just seen on Sedo, House.cc was recently sold for $1,100.

Not a bad return there and a reasonable profit to make from reg. fee I'd say.

First post on a monday morning, but I cant be arsed to do any work.

Not bad $1,000 = £500 approx

cc fee £30 approx from my server probaly more from others

£470 profit nice investment but with a few more years of investment might have got more but

Do you really want to take the risk on a extentsion that might take years to come to fruit.

Loads of generics for one thing or another out there, I see a lot of dot.org.uk but I always hold back maybe thats me being silly but I like profits over speculation.

Your not the only one, where is Wales anyway?

If it is something like that, it's deffinatly not worth the punt to me, I would sooner bet on Liverpool FC beating an under 2 year old football team than take a chance on that.

just had a look at the .cc reg database, all the cricket club names taken, ie hampshire.cc, sussex.cc etc.

good idea though! about the only use for it!
