Hi Guys,

Just thought I'd share the news.

DNJournal also produced an article which can be read here: http://www.dnjournal.com/lowdown.htm

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
-----------------------------

Little Pixels - Big Business
Commerce.co.uk

London, England, March 30th, 2006
The launch of one of the most desirable business URLs is hoping to create a spark amongst online advertisers and companies this coming month by giving users the opportunity to purchase advertising space on the www.Commerce.co.uk home page for the first time in 10 years. All advertisements placed on the Commerce home page are guaranteed to stay there for a minimum period of five years. This means users can advertise to millions for less than 0.06GBP per day which is great value for money on such a fantastic domain name.

Global Publications Ltd earlier this week decided to take down their corporate website of 10 years and replace it with an advertising concept which was thought up by University student Alex Tew late last year, only with the added twist of incorporating an online business directory and fantastic generic domain. Only time will tell if this was a good move to make.

Managing director Barry Garner believes merging their online business directory with pixel advertising will bring a new lease of life to the site, not to mention making the whole user experience more exciting and fun. "Everyone knew how successful Alex's site was", commented Barry. "We will add to the initial concept and help make it even more profitable for our advertisers - the potential is huge and there's obvious benefits to getting in early. We live in virtual world.... let's have some fun with it".

There are many names in business that we all associate with, but "Commerce" totally sums up all BUSINESS.

If you can afford to spend 6 pence per day - You simply cannot afford to miss this opportunity.

Grab a piece of internet history today!
Visit www.commerce.co.uk

Apart from a fairly decent Domain name what else are you bringing to the table with this launch? It certainly isn't unique is it!?

The original Alex Tew site was so successful because it was UNIQUE and attracted so much attention/traffic making it desirable from an advertisers point of view.

How much traffic does commerce.co.uk get?

What happens if you get "modest" interest, to the tune of a couple of dozen advertisers? Wouldn't that mean that you've effectively tied up your core domain for 5 years for a (mostly) empty page?

The current owners could always sell it, just the new company won't be able to change the front page for five years. http://visit.commerce.com etc. if a company is that keen there's always ways but yes it will tie the domain up to a certain extent however if he gets a million quid from renting out the domain for the duration, how bothered is the owner actually going to be?

Exactly. It can be good only for dozen advertisers, while their "buttons" are visible and prominent.

After that, no serious advertisers will care filling the gaps to become "part of internet history", as this was done already.

It's a shame you couldn't come with a better, own idea for a nice domain.

I personally think by having a tier 1 business name is what is going to seperate us from everyone else who tried to repeat Alex Tew's formula, not to mention the the added twist of incorporating an online business directory.

Only time will tell.

Regards.

Ps, Yes, obviously as people take space the site will be tied to a contract for the chosen period. I'm in no rush to sell the domain and am treating this more as an experiment rather than a get rich scheme, it would be great if someone could replicate the success of the original, and i hope that someone is me...

What an excellent 'second wave' website!!!

This site will be full - I'm sure.

Good Luck to the clever sausage who did it. I hope you make 'loadsa money' as Harry Enfield would say!

If you are thinking about grabbing some pixel space it could be a good idea to do so now as i will be advertising the site heavily over the next few weeks, starting from today, which obviously means more exposure for the advertisers listed. I will also be sending out an email to all the directory holders of which there are approx 58,000.

I 100% think this will work as i will make it work....

Come and support me guys its a good investment - 1 Square is less than £0.06p per day.

can you change the link later?

+all the other problems tew had e.g. can you resell links etc

-aqls-

Sorry mate £100 on googleads would give targeted traffic, whereas an ad [] that size on a page people visit via press releases... :(

http://www.pixelsitelinks.com/ , there is a .uk site that does 1p per pixel as well...

I am not sure what we are meant to be 'supporting' , will you come and support me by buying one of my crap domains at an inflated price? ;)

This pixel script is far superior. On sign up you receive login details which allows you to edit your pixel, monitor your stats, and view your affiliate tools etc

Once you have purchased your pixel space its up to you what you do with it.

There are also many new features to come which will benefit users - This site has a shelf life 100% and will continue grow.

Thanks guys.

Was he? It seemed to me that he was actually cynical.

:) Sorry but I could not resist. As far as I remember that media pumped guy was selling last 100 pixels at ebay for a lump sum. May be you wanna sell remaning 998K pixel to someone as a lump sum?

So will be be good for improving my webpages or not? The reason I ask when you check the site and put your mouse pointer over the icon of the company advertising, it does not show the direct link to the company. Its shows a redirect type link?

Lisa

I will change the way the links display right away e.g. If a user hovers over the link the users Url will be displayed and not the click tracking url which is currently displayed.

This will intern increase the users traffic due to the back linking etc - For some reason i thought i already done this as i know its importance, grrr

I done it on this page: http://www.commerce.co.uk/ranking.php but obviously forgot the most important one, DOH!

I'm on the case Lisa, thanks.

note:
The traffic on commerce is really starting to pick up now.

Monday 3rd April on Alexa : 77,900
Tuesday 4th April on Alexa: 35,597

I'm only just warming up too regarding the marketing :)

Kind Regards,
