Posted a couple of threads in the portfolio section trying to clear my remaining domains. Virtually no interest. Suppose I'm not completely surprised but there are some of some value either as keyword domains or for Seo value.

Also virtually nothing happening on domainlore at the moment.

Have we all given up? I realise somebody will say that the market in prime generics is booming but of course we never publically see those sales.

I've had a good run so not tragic for me. But if anybody is interested at all at what I've listed them please let me know,

Stephen

It dire isn't it I pretty much gave up a year ago and to be fair most of the stuff I drop isn't picked up so probably shouldn't have reg /bought them up in the first place. I got into it to late but still fun while it lasted.
If you have domains with good seo power try some of the forums had success there in the past

I feel the same way, all but given up, no response EVER on decent domains, DomainLore dead, Forum DEAD.

I don't agree that either DL or Acorn are "dead", it's just always quiet at this time of year.

If you don't get a response on your names, evaluate what you register and where/how you try to sell them.

I think domainlore is slowish because the number of good domains dropping is pretty thin on the ground + the good ones that do drop don't necessarily go on there

For me personally its been ok because I've caught zy, casinobonuscodes, gbb etc, keeps things ticking over

Thinking about it I've only had one private end user sale in 2016 which was of any note though

I just looked at your list, the only one I kind of liked was LuxuryLights because I could imagine a business calling themselves that, but the .com is for sale for £1990 and maybe Lighting is better than lights so

I was going to say id rather hold on to names like DoorSolutions, CarpetMaster, TheDrawingRoom, TotalDisplays than low searched or awkward keyword domains, then I just realised I've let TotalDisplays drop :| that's annoying, would have much preferred to hang on to that

Apologies for sounding abrupt and completely negative. I guess my frustration levels are a bit high. Yes. I agree with what you are saying and there will definitely be a drop off this time of year.

Having no issues with sales, and I sell a lot! December however is a no go month for sales which is why DL is likely to be quiet.

I don't know how you are with tough love, but you need to re-evaluate mate. Caucasian.co.uk is not a premium domain - I don't think it's even worth the reg fee as I can't see any potential buyers for it.

Positive criticism...always a better option...fully support it. And yes, I will be the first to admit I am still learning everyday. And yes, I will certainly take all the help I can get from the community and anyone else. Thanks for the honest feedback. There will be better ones....and I am sure there could be worse ones, but I will just keep trying.

Ian, do you sell some on Sedo and Flippa as well?

No chance, most are sold privately through my contacts; with the rest on Domainlore and here.

Good approach to take, but don't expect much in the way of quality/premium unless you buy them, or catch them. You're in an industry full of professionals that seek out the very best on a daily basis; rarely does anything slip through the net.

Thanks @ian , starting to realise this truth, plus they have deep pockets.

Murray - I don't drop catch anymore. When I did I had a quite different perspective as you could always find another investor to take it off your hands for a quickish sale. Interesting that you say you only had 1 private sale.

For those still selling on domainlore or elsewhere, are these genuine end user sales or just sales to other domain investors?

Interesting that you say you only had 1 private sale.

Hasn't been just one, had some xxx private sales, just only the one significant x,xxx sale

Other years have been better, but then I had more domains to sell

It's how it was in the old days. People buy on proof not on being 'brandable' (and that is basically 99% of domains with no earnings)

Perhaps it depends how big your portfolio, not dead for me. I sold a name parked with domain manage last week (reactive only, no outbound efforts) and I sold a domain today on SEDO...again just reactive and that was a hyphenated .co.uk! Plenty going on.

We've done plenty of deals (buying) in the past month or two with people from acorn and through DL.

The transactions are there to be had, but it really comes down to the names.

I remember a time when I could hand register a .org.uk, put it on affiliates4u forum and get an influx of people message me asking for a price. A time sticks out in my mind where after a having a few drinks out in town late at night I was showing my mate "how easy it is" and said lets get back to this guy with £500. Sale done pretty much instantly, money sent over. That felt amazing at the time to turn £5 into £500 with very little effort and it happened often.

As far as I am concerned this is nothing more than people losing faith in "keyword domains". As above there was a time where people would jump at any kind of keyword domain name with more than a few thousand exact searches seemingly for the sake of it. Because "they had value". You would see time and time again that 90% of the people buying them would never go onto develop them anyway.

While it is true that keyword domain names dont have the instant overnight success in Google that they once had, they still are of significant value if you are willing to put a bit of time in. In most cases they still rank very well with NO link building but you need to put effort into the content of the site and let it sit in Google for 6 months+ to get traction.

As an example 6 months ago I bought a 3 word .org.uk for £300 which would not have sold on here for £5. Now it makes well over that a month and with a small affiliate site on it and no backlinks. Just 20 odd pages. Took a few days to make the site. Just add it to the pot with the others.

Just take advantage of the low prices if you are into building sites.

I'm getting a fair few offers, but all low xxx, incl a sedo broker offering $200 for my steven domain, I didn't even think brokers went that low.

Offers via sedo are similar, the commission and vat they add nukes most small deals, and trying to suggest/imply a buyer to come direct for a better price is getting harder. Sedo really needs to adjust their minimum prices for smaller sales. I'd have sold the last dozen names if the percentage weren't so huge on small trans.
