If you're getting fed up with Microsoft trying to force Windows 10 onto your PC, then I can recommend GWX Control Panel.

You can download the latest version of the software from here:
http://blog.ultimateoutsider.com/2015/08/using-gwx-stopper-to-permanently-remove.html

It allows you to disable all the nasty little hooks hidden inside your system that prompt for Windows 10 updates, and to delete all trace of Windows 10 installers and associated files. You can also set it to monitor your system against future attempts to reactivate Windows 10-related updates.

It's easy to use, but it's still worth taking a few minutes to read through the user guide, especially the section about the "Clear Windows Update Cache" function as that's the one aspect you will probably want to leave well alone.

BTW, even if you know about this software already and installed it a few months ago, the new version is more aggressive at digging out every last trace of Windows 10 so it's probably worth reinstalling it and running it again.

Cheers Edwin, I've upgraded on my main laptop but my HTPC runs windows 7 for as I use Windows Media Center and MS hasn't ported that in to Windows 10.

Be nice to kill the nagging pop ups!

lol - Edwin's a true Windows 10 hater for sure!

Yes. From everything I've read it gives far too little control over everything ("Microsoft knows best" attitude). Plus I have my Win7 setup very finely tuned indeed.

I registered for W10 at the time, but got sick of the prompts, so just removed my registration. All I have now is the W10 icon in my taskbar but it never prompts me. So all good here, no fancy software required.

Yup have to agree with Admin, best operating system ive seen since XP. Had very little problems and those that I have had have been related to Sony Vaios Software not being compatible which i never used anyway.

Performance improvements across the board, super responsive. I wouldnt look back regardless of whether microsoft now know I visit acorn domains on my travels or what programs I use. (although I have turned off most of the reporting and notification features as i run a pretty bare system anyway since its only used for Work and work related programs.

Me too, upgraded to W10 on 4 different machines and all work perfectly.

Windows 10 is free because, openly, it tracks everything you do and every site you visit. Microsoft's privacy policy (which you agree to when you download) tells you that. I don't know what they do with all that data but clearly it pays for the operating system.

Windows 10 has been equally good and bad for me. I prefer its Performance and responsiveness running on this machine (Which is a good 5+ years old now)

BUT, I have encountered multiple problems along the way. Mainly problems with the start menu refusing to work, apps and the store breaking (I only use the default ones such as calculator and image viewer) and the audio breaking.

These are problems that are widely reported on forums and has been very frustrating, as have had to carry out system restores or in some cases completely reinstall windows.

Have also had blue screens on restart after updates have been installed etc.

Win 10 is as much as insult as it is an operating system. I'll be avoiding 'upgrading' until the last possible moment.
