Shouldn't there be a rule to stop this type of counter intuitive use of prime descriptive domains?

What a waste.

I agree, that is a horrific waste of a prime domain, why don't we club togehter and buy him out :p

he could certainly make more using it as a 'flights' site but to be fair it is a developed website & he is taking an alternate meaning of 'fly' ;)
like Rob says, he's branding it
there is more than one meaning, not just the obvious.
i would think he could squeeze even more than £100k for it, but i don't know how much he is making from his 'fly' business p/a
it's criminal when generic coms are parked, now THAT'S a waste
particularly say countries.....
www.japan.com :(

Not really - it is more a symptom of the complaints process and or the problem of nice names :)

Take http://www.germany.com/ for example - if he were to semi-develop or put a price up the country of germany would probably have a crack at nicking the domain.

The other question when you have a high traffic 'proper' generic is that the people visiting may all want different things ie. japanese food, japanese maps , japanese language lessons, japanese hotels etc so to do them justice the developed site needs to be done properly :)

Or - let the searchers adapt the displayed guide keywords over time to the most common and relavant and then allow advertisers to pay to be listed assuming those who pay the most to come out on top have the most relavant content :)

i don't agree in full tbh Rob.
it's a bit of a copout, i mean there are hundreds of countries, most are in private hands .
as far as i'm aware people have tried with geo domains (partic. countries) & always failed through wipo. mainly because you can't get more generic.
off the top of my head new zealand.com is one
you also have the option, (if someone tried) of having past cases to fall back on, plus you would have a 3 man panel for sure
however wipo has made freakish decisions in the past & with something huge like Germany.com , who knows what politics or backhanders go on behind closed doors. even at wipo
it should be developed & would be a big job , but the money would be made back in no time. probably if you saved 6 months parking in the first instance it would pay for the job. Applies for japan & Germany
think like you say , the problem with nice names is you can't develop them all, but a country com is not just nice, they're the ultimate imo
Maybe the owner owns a glut of top names & is spoilt for choice? For sure , just one of these babies would probably be a fulltime job.
Most have been 'warehoused' ;) by the same firms.
However, encouraging to see more & more seem to be developed.
Japan.com or Germany.com would be nice to find in the stocking come Christmas, eh? Lol

Nice - I selected a 2 week flight to JFL return, on premium economy.

It stayed on the "searching" page for about 30 seconds or so, then went back to the main page...

Same......

I found a premium economy flight to cyprus but when it takes me to the vendor site there are no premium economy, only economy? the flight didnt exist??? also when it returns the search the dates are out of line with the other fields.

cheers

Off to Prague - just banged it in and pulls up for a two person return flight £134 - which is the price per person, not for two people.

Similar pricing seems to occur for the rest.

Cheers,
Rob.

Should I wait for the rest of the page to load? I only see a small search bar at the top and a logo?

edit - just see its in Beta. Search works very well.

Dougs seeing how much you spent on the domain I dont think the logo and text does it justice also the search is a bit comtec. Bit amateurish imho.

I thought the same but its in Beta testing at the moment. I guess its just a simple page to get the search up and running - I guess the logo and page will be done in time.

maybe. just giving my opinion though. I think a domain like that deserves a good spend on design. Not to say dougs isn't doing that but as it stands..........

I agree about the look,

It really could be made to look alot nicer and cleaner with just 10 mins of work. I wouldnt want to have a page looking like that on such a domain name even if it is just beta.
