Getting a product made?

My friend has had a pretty decent idea for a product and asked me how to go about getting it made, and I have no idea but I would ask around.

It would probably be made from a ceramic material.

It's pretty basic and isn't a product that would be in every home or anything. Is it even worth pursuing or is it best left for business that are already have multiple similar products?
