Sometimes a domain is sold outside the Sedo marketplace and the seller forgets to delete the domain from their account. This is done automatically when sold through Sedo.

This can cause problems as a user may bid on the name in an incorrect account resulting in a cancelled transfer as the seller is no longer the owner.

To prevent this happening you should list your domains in your Sedo Account (even if they are listed and parked at another provider or you have your own sales page etc.). You can bulk upload them monthly or quarterly via spreadsheet to update your list. If the domain is listed in another Sedo account, upon verification it will be deleted from the wrong account.

If you do not want them to be listed for sale on our platform you can simply mark them as not for sale:

1. Login to your Sedo account and go to My Sedo > My Domains > Domain Management.
2. Select "Update sales settings" from the drop down menu "What would you like to do today?".
3. Check the box next to the domain(s) you want to edit.
4. Change the sales status under the List for Sale column.
5. Click the Execute button to save your changes.

Err, or you could just occasionally check the ownership of the domains?

We do but this is another way to help this problem.

We have over 16 million domains listed.

well i am guilty

Well i have to admit to being a bit forgetful and did not do this

however i remembered to update approx 2 weeks ago and have had

some good enquiries ;)

Could you not at least check the ownership as the very first stage of the sales process, before any payment has taken place?

I was very happy with a recent “buy now” purchase and having received confirmation of payment from sedo, I naturally assumed it was going to go through. So it was really aggravating to then receive a note saying “Sedo had to cancel the transaction because the seller is no longer the owner and has no right to sell the domain.”

I understand that, but it's not my problem. The original post suggests to me that someone who doesn't even use Sedo, should list their domains there just so you don't have to do as much housekeeping.

Thats how it read to me as well - I wonder if Sedo will supply me with a list of their 16 million names?

I just want to keep my records tidy you see... ;)

It is a good way to get a half decent drop list though :)
