Since Wednesday one can register a domain ending in dot bike dot guru dot clothing dot holdings dot plumbing dot ventures dot singles and the company behind it is launching another 98 extensions this year.

Can anyone provide any inspiration for me to register any name ending with any of these extensions. I seem to have lost any powers of vision I may have possessed in the past.

nope, got nothing.

Unless you're an actual business using one I can't see any investment potential.

If you got some disposable income to spare, I would say putting a chunk of it (say £50-100) into something like this is worth a punt, I personally feel with the amount of marketing and promotion these gtld's are receiving they could take off in a few years time.

Don't be one of the naysers I say! Years ago I was told time and again to ignore things like bitcoins, I turned down 2000 of them and could have bought them when they were still just a few pence, and yet I listened to the naysayers! People also said in the 90's the world wide web wouldn't take off don't invest, and those who did got rich.

To get rich you have to take risks and put your money where nobody else is willing to go!

If you got some spare disposable income that you would potentially blow on other crap like video games, dvds etc why not take a punt. Don't go over the top as that would be like gambling of course!

Too many grumps and not enough vision anymore, don't be one of them!

Here's to the future! :D

i have a few applications on behalf of clients, personally have little interest at this early stage.

Can you give me an example of any that you would wish to own.

I quite liked the idea of gym.singles and geo.singles, along with stuff like geo.plumber etc.

Will buy any ? I don't know, maybe 1 or 2, mostly stuff for personal use, I own 1 or 2 .tel/co/me etc nothing reseller tho.

I'm sure if he did he would own them already for the sake of a few quid ;) I'm still unsure about them!

Is it for the sake of a few quid, because these things become slightly addictive.
Reports will come through of massive sale prices ( the company has invested 100,000,000 dollars, they are going to have a clever strategy to promote sales)

Dave has kindly sent me through a few names he's pre registered, there isn't any I would take if they were given to me, some good keywords but with so many new gtld's available you could register them under any one of the others.
Uniqueness is always the key to value.

take one of the names it goes exampleexample.tips
you could today register exampleexampletips.biz
why would anybody buy or use the top one when they could free register the bottom one.
We are talking about 1000 gtld's, the permutations for names are mind boggling, it's almost, looking from a domain investors perspective, impossible to get one's head around.

I notice the company behind this works it's main site through .co (Columbia)
I don't know what message that sends out but anyhow it doesn't inspire me.

It's the power of the words combined into both the keyword and tld that makes them unique.

Betting.tips looks and reads more naturally to me than bettingtips.co.uk or have I lost the plot?

Well you guys can all miss out just like those who said no to bitcoin, no to .com, no to everything that ever took off! More for me thank you. :)

(Yes they may not take off so not saying you're wrong, but at the same time you're far from being right guys!) :D

It is easy to register a domain name, but when it comes to reselling it the buyer often puts a magnifying glass over it and therein lies the problem.

Alternative permutations are always the enemy of the reseller.

Whatever the chances of there being a user market in these extensions, I think there will be very little in the way of a genuine reseller market and the only business to be had is from the registrar perspective.

I think the opposite, but then again I'm an optimist so that's my excuse :) Too many times I've been bitten because I listened to the majority.

I'm pleased to say that I am an optimist also, but it's a question of what to be optimistic about.

What occurs to me which I find interesting having gone through the info and biz launch, is that you did not go for the very unique betting.tips . You went for watered down versions and the person following will have to go for even more watered down versions and we quickly lose site of real unique value.

John blogs has got xxxxxxxx.photographer

he could look at
xxxxxxxxphotographer.uk
xxxxxxxxphotographers.uk
xxxxxxxxphotography.uk

Make you wonder with this 'internet of things' that's coming about as result of ipv6 whether bits of your house are ever gong to have their own domain...

myaddress.freezer
myaddress.heating

wonder what will happen in 20yrs...

or even myaddress.wife so you can get her to stick the tea in the oven! ;)

Betting.tips was already prebooked in the early access phase, which has a fee of like $1000.. I said I was going to take a punt on a few domains, not invest a ton! :D

There are going to be over 1,000 new GTLD soon.

Donuts alone are launching 7 a week (and boasting about it, as if it's a plus!)

That makes them about as valuable as grains of sand on a beach.

For comparison, it took 6 years for us to gain the last 7 new GTLD, and none of them have set the world on fire. Now let that 7-a-week figure sink in and keep your money in your pocket!

This is exactly my point, on each extension the pure name will be gone or expensive, so you eventually water it down until you are registering worthless domains, longer tails or jumbled keywords. The original objective of buying to sell is lost in the race to register names. It happened with biz and info now just multiply that by 1000.
