Hi Folks,

Just a quick one, the Acorn Domains logo has been redesigned, hope you like it.

We've also used the new Acorn design for the Icons which indicate whether a particular forum has new unread posts for you.

There are also links at the top of the page to our Facebook and Twitter pages which will now be active, so please feel free to follow us in your preferred social media network,

That's all for now!

Steve

I like the new logo.

Where you've used it for the sub forum message status, you haven't matched the background colour properly, so it looks grainy around the edges.

Seems a bit like change for the sake of change

Hi Murray, I know you don't like change, I took that on board and remembered your comment. It's not change for the sake of change, I've done a lot of subtle work on the site in the last 3 days to improve it. To my eye the new logo is an acceptable quality for this site now and the old one looked homemade in comparison:

If you were giving away tenners, someone would be moaning because they didn't get a twenty.

Im surprised no one has moaned about the background change from Grey to white :D ( which is a nice subtle change ) .

Didnt like the logo earlier but its grown on me, Still feel there is something amiss but cant put my finger on it. I think its the more modern logo with the outdated table column design of vbulletin 3....................again nothing that wont look completely normal by morning.

I think it's a good improvement, but I agree there's something not quite right. I think the kerning could maybe do with being a bit more spaced out. Also the half-width tops of the a and s characters in this font seem a bit odd to me. There are some similar fonts with full width tops that in my view are better looking - check out Eurostile and Microgramma

acorn is a bit big on the new one

I like the font and colour better though

Change that 468 banner at the top to a 728 x 90

not only will it balance better with the new logo but it will cure some banner blindness and earn you a bit extra!

From my experience of running popular forums, its bloody hard work making changes, you always get loads of people complaining. I changed the look and feel of my forum from vbulletin 3.8.7 to xenforo to make it responsive and many people threatened to leave.

Yes, I know from experience 'design by committee' doesn't work. Everyone has their own style preferences.

I truly believe in responsive design but won't be changing AD forum to another platform for the forseeable. Instead I highly recommend TAPATALK which is setup here at Acorn and I use. It displays all forums, threads, posts clearly, its very easy to read, post, check your messages etc. Anyone with a smartphone should take a look.

Just install it on your phone https://tapatalk.com/ and then search for "Acorn Domains" from the forum lists, log in with your account and you are good to go. You can optionally set it to notify you of updates to threads you are subscribed to or you have a PM.

Given what we have, I actually like the new logo and tweaking you've done so far in terms of the design. But imo XenForo is the way to go and you should really reconsider that option.

A logo is a logo tbh. The content aspect, and what is being done to generate more conversation, is probably of greater importance.

Whilst your making all these changes might be worth boxing the forum so it doesn't stretch full HD width on 1080p or greater monitors

I’ll say I couldn’t have told you what the old one looked like ? Anything that makes it more memorable has to be an improvement ?The different colour nuts for new post etc catches your eye at least,,,
