I registered this domain 10 years ago when it was reduced to Category C drug in the UK foolishly thinking it was going to be legalised at some point. While Labour decided to bump it back to Cat B, America, Canada and others have decriminalised the stuff and Colorado alone has collected over a Billion in tax on weed since 2014.

So is this domain worth anything? I get about 10 enquiries a week from stoners with gmail accounts but have no contacts in the US or Canada so don't know where or how to sell it or even if it's worth the effort since it's a domain hack. I think someone selling could easily make a incredible brand out of it (like who.is) and if you want to make an offer or re-sell it for me feel free to drop me a DM.

Would appreciate your thoughts and please try not to mention the domain itself below.

Contact all the growing businesses springing up in America and Canada. Strike whilst the iron is hot whilst growth is exploding. Nature of the domain means there's not really a lot to explain is there? As a domain name it's a bit well novelty but that could well be what someone trying to distinguish/establish themselves is looking for. Imagine a retail outlet selling the product and in neon lighting is that domain name and it's all legal. People are going to just walk straight into that shop.

Given it's a 1 off, growth trajectory, a product lets just say demand and supply always match. There's never been a time when suppliers are at a loss 'oh dear we are over stocked' no one wants to buy. Doesn't happen in this market and the domain really does get straight to the point. I'd ask for 50k but if you end up convincing yourself it's worthless then I'm prepared to pay a tenner for it [in installments ;-)]

The ins and outs of it in the UK are to me irrelevant. It's not a UK centric domain name and nature of it is just the word itself not the suffix so can be sold to anyone in that business anywhere.

Thanks Dude,

I think you make a good point. The problem is I've been so fixated on how I would use the domain and I need to forget about the UK and look at the bigger picture. You've given me quite a bit of motivation there and I need to get off my ass or find a broker to do the legwork for me.

I feel it's just hopeless speculation and its worth reg fee at best. Without realising it you've justified this in your post.

Actually, the offers off the back of this post alone show it's worth a lot more than the reg fee

It's a nice hack, if I were you, I'd ping a few of the US brokers (mediaoptions, nameexperts, domainholdings) and gauge interest.

I had electric.al at some point, tried everything since it's a 2 keyword domain, no success, yours sounds good though. good luck

Think it's an excellent hack with appeal far beyond these shores (and to companies with deep pockets given the booming market).

Could turn out to be the best investment in domains you'll ever make. Definitely approach US brokers to see what they see it being priced at.

Ridiculous to suggest it isn't worth the reg fee!

If there has been offers off the back of this thread then i'd snatch their hands off, I'd have it down as a reg fee for sure. Domain hacks only work in my opinion if the domain means something without the extention. OR there is budget, momentum behind the brand or its a novelty such as del.icio.us was before they got old of the .com

Obviously just my opinion, which to be fair isnt worth much...especially when domains are concerned :D

I picked up "replied.to" a few years ago in hope that some mailing platform would find it quirky but offers have been few and far between (but there has been offers). Also with replied.co, .co.uk and .uk for the sheer hell of it lol.

Glad you've had some offers.. sounds like you'd better sit on it another 10 years and it might be a 2 Million dollars!

lol wonderful thought, I'll be well out of domains by then from a "hope to sell" perspective. What i have now will either sell or be dropped in the next round I'd guess.

yes but this domain is different. No one expects established concepts to be on a domain hack. But the whole new 'industry' this applies to is the wild west. Lots of new ideas are being tried. Crazier the better cos it's that sort of thing isn't it. And I'd try and catch them as they are battling for market share and having to make fast decisions and flush with seed money and growth cos that little era won't last.

You can't offer it imho for 5k cos anyone penny pinching at 5k probably doesn't have the resources to make it work. Choose a big but reasonable number and sell them the idea. It's up to them from then on. Enough investment and of course the domain would be a success cos the market is currently experiencing double digit growth.

Spotted this thread earlier. I certainly don't think it's without merit. It's a fast expanding area and the unique nature of the domain must give it some appeal. Good luck!
