This must be what it felt like back around 2006. I got a feeling something is being exploited again, and all I can say is congrats to those (especially one person) who seems to have figured it out. I just hope whatever it is Nominet get it sorted asap.

I am going to send Nominet an email asap raising my concerns that something is wrong with the system, anyone else feel the same way?

Yes that's who. Of course I'm sure many of us are annoyed we can't find this exploit, and kudos to Deny's, but the fact still remains that there is some kind of exploit to a bug and we must all raise this to Nominet, unless Deny's really is just that lucky (unlikely).

Finding an advantage is the nature/fun of the game. I was doing well a few weeks back, now Denys is kicking my ass. Am I going to ring Nominet? Hell no, I'm going to try and find the advantage myself before everyone else catches up!

Denys is 1 person who I can say without a seconds thought he is anal about his code and optimising his server(s).

The odds are good he's just optimised his code again, perhaps using some Assembly in C (not that I know what lang he used) or maybe he's reduced his server overheads to improve the reaction speed, I'm not so sure there is anything sinister, I think its likely he's tweaked his code maybe moved language.

And his underling partners aren't doing well either (domaincatch_co_uk), just him. Makes you wonder what he is doing with their polling data.

Must be a bug surely even if every everything was tuned to perfection the amount of time you have to wait between polls should make catching two in a row unlikely the odds of 3,4 and 5 in a row shouldn't be able to happen given the supposed number of tags that chase the premiums.
If its not a bug he must have worked out the seed for the random calculator

You can't really moan about it as everyone who is drop catching is trying to get ahead of the competition (its just part of the thrill of it, isn't it?) and if it was you picking up all the goods one then I doubt you would hold up your hands and tell anyone including Nominet that you have spotted a flaw in the system. Its always been the same through time that someone at sometime gets on a roll, just happens to be Denys this time.

That's why I suppose drop catching as we know it, is going to probably end next year. With all these premium domains dropping all the time the big registrars have been putting pressure on Nominet for along time for a piece of the action. When that happens it will be whoever wants to pay the most for a domain will get it.

No different really than now as instead of a domain being auctioned on domainlore it will be on Godaddy etc and will go to the one that wants to pay the most for it anyway, whether it be a domainer or an end user. All the big registrars are trying to kill of the drop catchers and hate it when they see all these premiums domains being caught for next to nothing, if we want it we are going to have to pay the going rate for it like everyone else...

Denys has proved his coding skills with the great job he has done at DL so I would put it down to that and although he's not an Acorner anymore, I won't have it said here that he is doing anything dodgy.

This most likely is a bug as it seemed to happen shortly after nominet released an update last month.

BEFORE I PONDER MY NEXT QUESTION LET ME MAKE IT CLEAR I'M NOT ACCUSING DENYS OF DOING ANYTHING UNDERHAND HE PROVES HIS INTEGRITY THE WAY HE DEALS WITH CHEATS. THE FOLLOWING COULD EQUALLY APPLY OTHERS RUNNING SIMILAR SETUPS.

If this advantage is down to being able to crack the seed of the random drop time generator is it fair that the myself and others who can only use 432,000 Max data points for statistical analysis of the drop times. Are up against those who have access to data from multiple TAGS.

AssetDomains is right with what he's said. I'm not here to accuse anyone and yes fair play to Deny's for finding what it is but the point still remains it has to be a bug. Let's not forget drop catchers invest time and money into this expecting a level playing field and if there isn't one there's really no point to drop catching.

Why does it HAVE to be a bug? Since Denys came up on top a couple of weeks ago, how much in depth research have you done into how he's doing it? I suggest non/not enough

Maybe I'm being a bit oldschool, but this is the sort of situation that should inspire you to find out how it's being done so that you can catch up/take over rather than go crying to Nominet!

Expecting a level playing field is a massive mistake, over the past year or so it's been more level than in the past but everyone is (or should be) looking for a way to level it in their favour!
